Is Your Tow Rig a Diesel Engine?

2014 Ram 2500 diesel now w/ featherlite open and 24ft enclosed
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee w/ featherlite open
2008 Ford F250 diesel w/ 20ft enclosed
2002 Ford Excursion diesel w/ 20ft enclosed
For any enclosed go 3/4 or 1 ton diesel, the extra margin of stability, brakes, cooling etc is worth the $. Open trailer handle fine with 1/2 tons, big engined SUVs. Diesel 3/4 ton with open trailer is a dream, completely effortless towing. Ram has the best suspension, firm and stable, does not squat badly with a load on it. Fords were too soft and needed airbags and extensive WD/sway control.
The new DEF diesels have much better power and mileage than the 1st gen DPF only engines. Excursion had a 7.3, but it was a turd until tuned, w/exhaust and intake upgrades. But was still loud and industrial. Cummins is a tick louder than Fords and Duramax, but pulls under load very well, growls enough to let you know it means business. Ram has the best electronics and configurable dash display. I daily drive mine, and it is the most nimble handler of the big 3 brands. I love it more than all the other trucks before.
Here is my current truck picking up the new 24' trailer, with no WD hooked up yet.

'07.5 6.7L Cummins Dodge Ram 2500. Just bought used in last few months. Tow 35' 15,000lb trailer. Tows AWESOME. Stable, and get 12.5 MPG towing. 20.5 combined MPG normally.

+3. Q7 diesel for the win. Open trailer towing spb or gt3. No problems. Great gas mileage. 3 rows of seating. Way better than my X5 for towing.

+1. I also have a Q7 Diesel and tow an enclosed Trailex (20' V neck and short). My wife's uses as a daily drive and now loves the car. Never a problem towing. Just couldn't justify a needing to get some huge truck that the Mrs would be using as a daily to get a longer and taller trailer. Thank god I love the wife, otherwise I would have the truck and a larger trailer... . Seriously, I would love bigger but this fits perfectly for what I need at and away from the track.
Anyone say tour bus and huge stacker trailer (other than my 19 yr old son) ?

2013 F250 Lariat Platinum, super comfortable and tows my Featherlight open trailer like it is not event there. While most of the vehicles listed here have the backup cam it is a must for backing up to the trailer when you are running solo.

Just got home from looking at a few used Diesels. Was towing my 27 foot enclosed with an Infiniti QX45 (big SUV) and have gone through a couple of transmissions in five years.
Borrowed my buddies 2006 Ford F350 and I could accelerate going up steep hills with the diesel engine.
Trying to get something in the next few weeks before track season starts up again.

2008 Ford F-250 V10 gas. I pull a 24ft enclosed. Only 9 mpg towing (at 70-75 mph) but 87 oct. is cheap. And maintenance is cheap and simple.
