Best way to sell and ship track wheels - take off the old tires or not?

I have 2 sets of race wheels from the 993 (a set of Forgelines - WC3 with gunmetal centers, polished lips, and a set of CCWs - C14, brushed clear, all in very good condition). Both sets are shod with older Hoosiers; might be usable but I suspect they don't add value. Am I better off spending a few bucks per wheel and removing the tires, or leaving them on? And, when shipping them, should they be boxed or just protected with wrap and cardboard? Thanks Pics below since I know I will be asked. I figure $1500US per set plus shipping is fair. The CCWs are late 2010. The Forgelines are late 2005 I believe. Tires are a lot newer.
The specs on the wheels are as follows:
Built for 1995 narrow body 993
CCW C14 brushed clear (the silver ones) built September 2010. 8.5 and 10 x 18. Offsets seem to be 51 mm fronts, 63 mm rear.
Forgelines are WC3 (gunmetal centers; they are somewhat lighter than the pictures) built late 2005. 8.5 and 10 x 18. Offsets seem to be 54 mm fronts, 57 rear.
Both sets wear 245/35/18 and 285/30/18 Hoosier R6 tires.

If the tires are of no value - they will likely cost more to ship then they will to dismount.
If you are shipping just the wheels - box them up. I traditionally do 2 boxes with 2 wheels each. add some extra layers of cardboard to each wall of the boxes to soften any blows, and a few layers between the wheels inside the box - I usually lay them 'face to face' with tome bubble wrap or foam up against them.
If they are going with tires - protect the faces and wrap the whole mess in tape/platicwrap/whatever.

the tires will protect the rim but increase the shipping cost
get the tire weight off of tire rack and get an online shipping estimate to see the effect
I have shipped a bunch of tires and wheels and if you are using ups I have found it's cheapest to strap them in pairs

Hi Rick, strip the tires off. You can do it yourself with a bar and a hammer. If there is a shop that sells wheels near you stop buy and see if they have some boxes that fit. Would love to see a set on my 993. What are the sizes and offsets? I will be at Tremblant for that event

See you at Le Circuit! Love that track; I'll bet my new Cayman does too.

I've shipped a lot of wheels over the years and I have almost always shipped the wheels bare. I sent a set from Cincinnati to Washington State for under $150 not long ago. Box them. I pick up a sheet of blue wall insulation from Home Depot and cut it to fit the box top and bottom. That gives the wheel a good cushion to rest on.
