Does the Indy 500 always start so early?
I'm way more interested in F1 but I will usually watch the Indy 500 if I find it on the Tele.
I got home from my meeting yesterday around 12pm and there were like 11 laps left with a Red Flag coming out - Pacific Standard Time here!
My Question is do they always start the Indy that early each year? Seems like they always have started after Lunchtime here on the Pacific Coast.
I will usually try to catch the F1 events Live if they aren't on too early; say before 5:00 a.m. provided some channel shows it again. which NBC Sports did yesterday. But I must admit I haven't caught the 500 in a few years and I was wanting to watch the whole thing after catching Monaco.
Which on is it?

Yes, it use to start at 11:00 a.m. central and then they switched 5-6 years ago to 12:00 central. Then Indiana decided to start following eastern time year round, so it's basically at the historical time again.

Guess in the pre-VCR days it was great the TV coverage was on tape delay, and I could watch it at night.
Speaking of Back To The '50s, how about ABC still not moving beyond showing wives during the final laps? At least they split-screen it now. But still.........

It really was great. Camera work seemed improved too.

The 98th running of the 500 started at about 12:20, shortly after Jim Nabors finished singing "Back Home Again In Indiana" for the final time. I was there among 300,000 race fans. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a spectacular facility where American motorsport racing was born.
