It'll be pretty easy to use for spec classes. Less so for others so I expect we will see a lot of these this year Streak. I can't remember a race in the past two years where I didn't get something checked.
I'm no expert but from the conversation I had that shouldn't be an issue. They can determine your gear ratios within 1% or something so if you come out of a corner faster it won't matter because the calculation of your gearing will still be consistent with what your stock numbers should be (assuming the rules require stock gears) which is also why sandbagging won't hide a cheater either. If you come out of that corner with an engine turning 1000 rpm higher than everyone else you have a problem. I would assume that wheel sizes will be pre-loaded since, take e stock for example, anywhere from a 15" to a 17" wheel is used.
Exactly. If they know your speed, rpm and tire size they will know your gear ratio.
For the folks that had these black boxes in your cars did you go to the scales as well? If not then PCA wasn't using it for anything other than testing how they are going to put it in and take it out. Knowing the actual weight of the target car is a vital variable.
Had me pull a spark plug and cycled the motor with some handy dandy sliding thingies that someone had made up for them. They pulled them out and then compared them to known templates.

They came by to check me too. I got the car all ready and waited and waited and waited and I finally flagged them down and they decided it was too late to bother with it so my 3.9 will live to see the next event! MWAAAHAAAHAAAHAAAA!
