I can't say whether Michelin placed theirs in a manner that serves dual purposes or not, but the reason manufactures place them there is to assist location of the wear bars. The arrow on my Toyo RRs are place approx 1/2" lower on the sidewall than those Michelins.

MPSS's like ~ 36 hot front & rear on the street on a Cayman/Boxster platform. Use your on board TPMS display to monitor hot pressures. I've found it to be pretty dependable and accurate over the past few years.
