I emailed Walt with specific questions and never heard back.

I do know that a friend did hear back from him, but I promised to keep the answer private (I did not like what I heard).

I wonder if any others have insight. This whole thing stinks.

Been searching for these elusive Sabelt sliders...anyone have pics?
The ones I come across online look identical to the Sparco sliders I got last season!

I spoke with Walt about this at Sebring. Will have more to report later. In talking with Sparco, I was told that no sliders are FIA tested. Seats are tested with their side mounts, (ie: A Sparco seat is tested with Sparco side mounts). I have yet to see a current slider from Sparco, Recaro, OMP, MOMO etc, that have an FIA sticker in place. Yes, the Sparco, MOMO and even Sabelt sliders all look identical. OMP changed theirs several years ago, but at one point, they looked identical to Sparco sliders.

I have yet to understand WHY this rule change was brought forward.

The wording seems to indicate that stock Boxster / 996 sliders are OK. Is that true?

Yes this is the "preferred" slider in the new rule.

Do they lock on both sides? I thought they only locked on 1 side....

At least 2 (and up to 4) pins lock per side.

For 986, 996, and newer models the ONLY slider allowed are the factory sliders. Even the Sabelt sliders are not allowed in the newer cars.

Yes, I have the same understanding.

Hoping this proposed rule change for 2015 gets the common-sense-test axe...

I find this interesting. These sliders are TUV approved (of course) and yet other sliders such as the Recaro double lockers which are also TUV approved are not allowed.

I really don't understand what is going on here.

For those of us with pre-996/986 cars, the later sliders and/or the factory mounting points will require modification to fit in the early cars.

For the 964/993 cars you can use these adapters to make them fit:

http://www.ogracing.com/brey-krause-...to-993-964-car

Intended originally so you can put the GT3 or later factory seats into the 964/993.

But Mark, this exposes the folly of the original ruling.

It appears that certain authorities at the PCA decided that certain sliders "looked" stronger and thus they'd be mandatory.

In order to use these "stronger looking" units, we'd have to make modifications to perfectly good tubs, or use adapters such as the ones you have.

Who certifies any of this? At least my Recaro double lockers have a TUV cert.
