how did you all start out racing
for those of you who race at tracks how did you start off? did you just show up to a race track one day and pay to get in? what is the process? are their track type of races I can take my street car to? do you guys have seasons like football?

You will get more info if you post this in the racing section of the Perf & Comp section.
Yes, you can take your street car to a DE (Drivers education event). But you won't be racing.
Also there are the Autocross days which let you get an idea of the limits of your car. You don't really want to find out the limits the first time going over 100 MPH next to a concrete barrier.

Started with a Simplex Challenger go-kart with West Bend 580 in the early 60's... still have it and my kids drove it when they were kids. After many years, did Skip Barber, Bondurant schools and lapping days, then SCCA schools with rented SR Renault and SRF. Then did shifter karts with my boys (little 3 kart team all over midwest with SKUSA), then Spec Miata with the boys again... just doing occassional DE in the GT3 now, but will crew for my oldest son, when he does Formula Enterprises in SCCA next year. Since he's "borrowing" my truck and trailer, I'll get to do some Friday lapping days with it!! Can't wait!!

I first got hooked on racing and driving playing Playstation and Need for Speed before I could get a license. The next step was karting, then Formula SAE in college, and finally PCA Driver's Ed events (the last one isn't exactly racing, but it is something I can do with a street car).
If you're interested in amateur/club racing some day, karting, autocross, or DE are all great places to start (they may be good places to start if you want to go pro too, but I can't really speak to that)

Started with DE early 2012. Got moved up this year to our black group (which has expanded point-by passing). Realized that though it's not racing, in my mind I was racing every car out there.
Now in process of buying or building a spec box. CDI is signing off on my application. Planning on 1st race by end of May 2014 (PCA Club Racing).

When my father handed over the keys to my 84 wolfsburg edition VW Scirocco .. tracked a few times with" others" cars.. they thought I was a little too risky.. but must say, there is something about pushing your driving skill limits when variables are uncontrollable.. "like don't worry I had that corner covered, what.. as if I did not see the fence" .. @ the age of 13 I was the co-pilot of a VW rally.. got hooked on cars ever since...now I am a mom.. I race grocery karts, and if you get in my way, I will send you over to the other isle..
