Rick Betterley's 993 track car is now for sale-asking $49k
I know - hard to believe as I love this car. I love to drive it, I love to work on it, and I love to look at it. It's that good. Fun and fast.
This is my 1995 993 coupe that was built to run in PCA Club Racing (G class) in late 2005. Built by a pro race shop for a fastidious owner. PO was an active Rennlist participant and all around well-respected member of our community. I was looking for a lightly used fully-built club race car for DE, and boy, did I get a good one.
PO ran 1 race (and won) at Mid-Ohio then sold to me in early 2006. I have driven her in the Instructor run group ever since (no racing for me). What I love about the car is that it handles like a dream yet is comfortable and fast. Several pro coaches active on Rennlist have said the same thing.
Never been crashed or abused, never even off the pavement - my coaches have noted my smooth driving style and that I am easy on the car. Always maintained to a high standard including preventative replacement of suspension bits, axles, motor mounts, frequent fluid changes, and of course a good coat of wax.
Engine has never been opened and oil leakage is limited to a drip here and there. NO oil usage noted.
Transmission has been opened twice - once to replace a broken gear tooth, the second time to refresh the bits; while in there I had GBox regear 3-6 to a slightly lower (faster) level (described in attached). At that time (2011) we replaced clutch etc.
The car was perfect for me but I am thinking of a change for change's sake.
Some of the most prominent specifics:
* Stock motor for reliability
* Dual factory oil coolers
* Shorter gear ratios (3 through 6)
* Porsche Motorsports Limited Slip Differential
* RS mufflers (source of the 'intoxicating motor sound' mentioned by Frank)
* Full welded cage, racing seats, and 6 point harnesses
* Moton Club Race remote resevoir shocks
* 700/900 lb springs with helper springs
* RSA sway bars
* Strut tower brace
* Lightened 200 lbs (100 lbs net after cage install)
* RS door panels, carpet, etc.
* AiM data logger and SmartyCam with GPS
I am no hot shoe but at Watkins Glen have done a 2:15.11, at Tremblant a 1:57.01.
Car will include 1 set of BBS-built wheels w/Michelin Super Sport tires and 1 set of Fikses with somewhat tired Hoosiers mounted (pictured).
Interior has been cleaned up and Cool Suit cooler removed since this picture was taken.
I have had several of my track friends ask to let them know if I ever sell the car; I always said 'no way.'
But if you are interested, let me know.
Thanks; I'd be glad to entertain your questions.

So the questions about a Cayman for "a friend" where for you???????
For anyone interested, this is a very nice, clean car. It's been maintained to the hilt and ready to go.

FRED - a Cayman S track car; I am in love with the Interseries cars but that is too pricey for me. I have my eye on the Cayman equivalent of my 993 - a really well done but lightly used track car. Hard to find, though.
