No external mic. That car is really noisy though. The tire clag you hear in the video is as you hear it in real life. A little stressful the first time out in the car. T4 Miata. Essentially stock with a cage. Former SSC car.

I'd like to help you out. I'll offer to swap for yout camera for an almost new gen 1 camera or upgrade yours to a new Gen 2 for $300. I sell them with a female mic jack in the CAN cable so you can add a mic if you want. I don't sell with a mic in the CAN because the current firmware doesn't allow user to choose the mic setting like the non-HD did. I've been asking for them to give the option back to us. I deal mostly with Porsche cars, but can't believe that the camera won't work fine in an M3. I'm at Sebring all week and may not be able to respond if you ask questions.

The Rev2 has a better lens and the returns the ability to connect an external mic for those who want to do that (was present in the standard definition SmartyCam and not present in the first series SC HD.

AiM says it's a better CMOS sensor (for better video), but I've sold about two and a half dozen so far and I can't too much of a difference.

I run a Rev1 on my car.

I will test it in my GT3 that has a very loud M&M exhaust and see what sounds like.

Will Race Studio 3 allow one to compare two videos side by side?

You can do this in SmartyManager 2, not RS3. When you are in SM2, click on the right hand logo at the top. Then, add the two videos you want to compare side to side, select the laps, and watch in enjoyment! Or is it puzzlement? I guess it depends on the day!

I've found that they don't always sync, and that rhe image size is so small its hard to read the values. Work in progress.

To each their own... That's why there's more than one deal out there. The AiM SM2 side-by-side is a stopgap measure until a full-featured RS3 is out, but it is GPS time stamp and position based, not unlike VVB.

Some folks would add Race-Keeper to that mix of good side-by-side comparison loggers, now that the HDX2 is out.

The VBOX HD two-camera with onscreen graphics (due out Summer 2015) and the R-K HDX2, both around $3K, offer a great option for those who prize side-by-side video with vitals over drilling down on the data alone and logging many more parameters.

It's most important that you buy something you'll use... This is not a competition!

This is the truth! It's just like different brands of everything, pick the one you like and use, then master it. It doesn't matter what data system someone has if they only use it for a lap time or tachometer.

You, me, Roger, Jerry and a bunch of folks are doing our best to keep that from happening!

Love the dash set-up. It's been a long time since I've been into the program but I don't remember seeing the ability to set it up as shown here. Was there an update with this or some trick I was not aware of?
