Default Miata track car wanted

A friend of mine caught the track bug and unfortunately put his classic Jag into a tire wall at Summit Point. He decided that he'd like to continue his track hobby in a Miata and called me to help him find one. Any of ya'll know of a good one for sale?

Mark

BSI Racing near Daytona is a credible Miata shop and I believe has cars for sale. I live in Daytona and see you are in Kissimmee so if your friend is local, might be worth checking out. http://miata.bsiracing.com/

I am from Chicago and have been considering getting a Miata so I can race more and BSI is who I have considered buying a car from.

Check the NASA boards. There are usually a good number of them for sale on there.

racing or just a track car?

1+ for Stu at BSI. He knows all the tricks to build a front running SM. (he was vw/porsche shop when in FLL)

he's not cheap, but well worth it in the long run if you want to race in SM.

Racing junk has some good cars listed. Has your friend thought of a spec Boxster?

A good Spec Miater is 1/2 the cost of a BSR with lower cost consumables and repairs. As for builders OPM also builds a mean Spec Miater.

Granted, but it can't run PCA club racing. Racing junk has some great Miatas well prepped. Good luck.

No love for a beater 944? I get to make nyah-nyah faces at Miata people because I have a sweet attached roof.

miata.net would be another good place to try. clubroadster.net is the other big Miata forum I can think of. TBH, I was looking at 99s locally on Craigslist before I got the 944 LeMon. Find the local Mazderp expert/shop for a pre-purchase inspection, buy if sans vehicular herpes, add rollbar, hoon--cheaply.

(cc: equiraptor? evil VW-av twin needs to chime in)

Just a track car. This is a 70 yr old dude who just wants to do some laps at a DE. He has no racing goals. He specifically requested a Miata. He lives in the DC area.

Try Mike Collins at Meathead Racing, located at Summit Point. He gave us great advice while we were looking for a Miata track car.

+1
Mike Collins with Meathead is in Maryland, so pretty close by. That said, Mike deals primarily with Spec Miata. If he'll be driving, not towing to the track, almost any decent Miata will do. Just add a good roll bar, like HardDog Hard-core or have Piper Motorsports build one that fits him and the seat he picks. Then throw on a decent suspension and go.

IF its just a DE car, I would suggest something else. -just not enough hp to run with the pack. (if he is running solo).

I don't like running my car anymore unless its an open passing format, because I feel like I'm holding guys back. and there are less and less guys to run with.

plus he won't get the mazda motorsports discount unless he races.
Then there's the tight cockpit in a SM....

I'd suggest he rent a late model SM for a DE weekend... that will let him decide...

OTOH, great momentum car, excellent for skill building on the cheap.

I may get shot for this but he could also look at a later RX8 as they have good handling and decent power. Good arrive and drive car. I am not a fan of soft top cars with just a roll bar.
