Default Indy Car to COTA

No deal yet, but they're talking about a 2014 date.

cool, that's a great track for open wheel cars.

although it will highlight how "slow" (relatively speaking) the current Indycars are to F1 cars.

anyone know if the WEC agreement with COTA is long-term?

true. but F1 is the textbook definition of diminishing returns, budget wise

I would expect the current Indycar to somewhat split the times between F1 and the Audi/Toyota P1 cars at COTA. probably closer to the P1 cars.

I'd say looking at the budgets, F1 is under performing

Must be the tires

Budget means nothing compared to the base ruleset.

One could come up with a racecar that would be faster than an F1 car for significantly less money.

F1 has a very restrictive ruleset that is also open to some interpretation in how they achieve it. Because of that and the desire of the teams to spend a LOT on getting the last hundredth, the cost is high.

The main reason Indy is so cheap is because it is a spec chassis.

I'm sure if Indy wanted to throw a big engine, super sticky tires at it they could get down there below F1 times.

If you know anything about racing, all of that is very obvious.

Come on man...450 mil difference in budget.

What's the purpose?

I guess DRS and crappy tires cost a lot.

F1 costs.

1 off parts
Short life cycle of parts (race/session vs. season)
Materials of parts
How they travel
Where they travel
VIP setups.
Crew they travel with
Engine budget
Ability to change aero package with tweaks, not plug in aero package B from Dallara
Coverup Money
Voodoo Witch Doctors are really not as cheap as one would think.

What's my budget? As much as I'm allowed to spend is the usual answer right?
