WTB: 944 body/shell
My '83 944 ChumpCar got t-boned this morning and now looks like a giant banana.
Everything except the frame appears to be in good, salvageable condition, though, so if anyone has a spare body in decent condition that they've stripped for spares, I want it!

I have a late 951 tub with $4k cage I bought for chump car, but won't finish (baby on the way). Formerly driven by jack Baldwin. Email me at fourdigits@gmail.com if you want photos, otherwise I have a post in the classifieds here. Good luck!

We were running in the white 944 (which blew the #2 rod with an hour left and running in 1st).
Good luck on the rebuild.

Thanks! I was a little shocked at how hard that hit was, too. Looks like someone overcooked the turn under yellow and punted us in the side right where the corner of the rollcage was. The entire car's bent.
I'll probably try Chump again...but maybe on a track I've been to before next time. We're aiming for the 24-hour LeMons race in September at MSR-Houston with the rebuild. They're a little too heavy-handed about contact there, but maybe that's not such a bad thing for now, heh.
ETA: Might as well include the crash pic. Behold, my giant blue banana!

So sorry to see that happen to you guys. I haven't seen too many hits that severe in the past. Don't let it discourage you. We need more 944's in chump!

We run a 924S -- what oiling, lower end mods have you done.
I'm all about trying to keep the engine alive -- we've lost two #2's in the past.
But so far 4 races on latest engine.

We should have 2 early cars that would work well, one interior stripped and ready to go, another one fairly complete. Also have a lighter 924s.....It's pink, so it fits in well with chump car

Heh, Pferd/Porschelump was a former race winner.
Interior stripped would be preferred--less work for us! Is it rolling or just the chassis? Also, how much? Pics?
Pink? Hmm. I've matched beater racecars to the purple bunny and the blue bunny that I have.
There is a pink one!

On that 177k motor we ran 12 hours at ECR (4th); 6 hours at ECR (20-something due to mid race trans swap); 13 hours at TWS (DNF due to a bad fuel filler neck); 15 hours at Heartland Park (7th in the championship); And then a hard 6 hours at TWS on Saturday when it blew.
All in all, we were pretty proud she lasted that long. We should have changed the bearings again. The weird part was that it was overheating when we left the pit. I thought it would cool off when I got rolling back on track, but temp stayed pegged. Then coming out of turn 9 it let go so we're assuming that the two were related. We just don't know the cause of the overheating.

BOOM.
Shell acquired!
I'll post this because the seller has four others in various states of dis/repair in his shed in Leander--it looks like a 944 guy vacated the shop and left a few parts cars just there. He offered me all four other cars for $600, take 'em out. I'd have took him up on the offer, but don't have the space, so I just called dibs on one. http://austin.craigslist.org/cto/3866153923.html
If anyone needs any burgundy interior bits or an automatic transmission for a later-model 944, let me know--it's all coming out of this car.
