which winch?
I bought an 8k lb winch off of ebay (pretty cheap, say $250) and it crapped out on me. Sucks, cause when you need a winch, its probably because your car is broke.
My trailer has a trailer hitch on the front, where I would put the winch when used, otherwise it would go in the box (open trailer). I need to buy a new one. Which warn winch would suite my needs for a 944?
The 8klb one seemed overkill and was really heavy.

I like my Warn xt30. Wireless remote, synthetic rope, free spooling. An ATV winch, fully sealed, so good for your external mount (mine actually mounted in floor, in enclosed trailer). Rated for 3k lbs, it pulls my 2700 lb car easily. When I called Warn, this is the one they recommended, based on my desire for a wireless remote.
Not cheap, but less money and less maintence than the wench listed above

Overkill is not a bad thing. Think about pulling a disabled car up that's sitting on dollies or worse...I have a 6500lb winch...
....couldn't imagine a 6500lb wench....eeeuuuuwwwww......

I've been thinking about a superwinch terra 35 for my Trailex enclosed. Already very tight/cramped in front of the car. Anyone have photos or tips on where/how to mount one of these without interfering with the cargo straps, or interfering with my ability to climb around the car?

I mounted mine in the base cabinet at the front of the trailer. It does take up some storage space but its out of the way. If you drive in and it's only for incidental use, you can get a slide on mounting plate, slide it on and plug it in and you're ready to go. Put it in the storage box out of the way. For open trailers it keeps it out of the weather and away from thieves...
