What ever you might think about Tony George, Indy was a great place to watch an F1 race and the prices were cheap!

I think there's a couple camping spots nearby, but they likely aren't as nice and you wouldn't be on track, either. Sucks.

$15K for it, though? Crack pipe!

Sign up and race with SVRA, run your generator, and you can park in the paddock all week for free at Sebring.

That $15,000 makes a yacht VIP package look cheap!

$1200 Coach ticket to Shanghai, $100 a night at a Marriott in Shanghai, scalped ticket at Metro station $150, 5 day Metro pass $30 (Airport to hotel to track). China travel Visa $150. F1 on the cheap.

I most enjoyed the 911 Challenge Cup from the golf course.

Loved watching the door to door (and then some) passing on the exit of the back straight.

Saw the Grand Am races at COTA. First rate! Had a PCA tourist lap and could sit anywhere I wanted. Only downside was the overpriced beer and not finding off-site lunch until the second day. There are a handful of really good seats, but best to watch from several vantage points.

F1: expensive and you're stuck in one, certainly poor, seat. Just not for me. It's better on the BBC.

It's a great facility. Truly great.

It's run by folks who have zero motorsports knowledge or experience. Truly ZERO.

Q.E.D
.

^ What he said.

FWIW, a friend last year talked to some people that live very close to the track (walking distance), and secured a deal for parking his trailer at their place, walk to the track. It was VERY cheap, IIRC something like a couple hundred bucks for the whole weekend. Might be worth a scouting trip.

I got this email from a friend last year - (actually, exactly 1 year ago today!) many of you know him - regarding RV parking at COTA for F1:

"I thought y'all would get a kick out of this.

I thought I had it all figured out - I would rent an RV for the F1 race and stay right there at the track - what could be easier?!

I found an RV I could afford, and never even thought about how much the track would require to let me park there.

Well they called the other day to find out what kind of PSL and season tickets I was interested in, and I told them the MAIN concern was RV parking since I was going to be bringing one down.

They told me that to park an RV there that weekend, it would be $15,000 PLUS 6 PSLs (minimum $1000 each) PLUS 6 Season tickets (minimum $500 each). JUST TO PARK AN RV.

I was silent for quite some time, and then the sales rep asked if I was still there. I told him I was still searching for my jaw that dropped completely off, rolled out the door and down the stairwell.

So I guess I won't be staying in an RV at the track.

I need a new plan now!"

I'm glad I'm not the only one who nearly stroked out at prices. Granted some of you guys are speaking about track events, the F1 prices were astronomical. I put my name in for PSL, put my money down, met with the rep and he finally let me know the pricing, and like someone else mentioned, I was silent for a bit. Too rich for my blood, I just bought a house, don't have that type of disposable at the moment.

It's too bad too. It keeps a lot of die hard US fans out of the experience.
