None of it was sarcastic, yes I do play music on the race track - it really pisses folk off when i am going faster than them and 'apparently' not taking it seriously - it's called gamesmanship.

Porsche sell a small plastic device with a hardened steel (tungsten?) head designed for window smashing, I've seen them in coaches too.

And yes, I can attest that you can dive through a window with a helmet on and emerge unharmed.

Two things:

1) Windows down makes it easier to steal the radio.

2) My dog's tag reads "Hi my name is no no bad dog, what's yours?"

Best,

Well, usually when in doubt, refer to what Pro Racing Series do, right?

In this case, they have windows up. And I do know their windows are not glass but I agree with R+C here, not that difficult to break a window.

I don't really care, nor do I listen ABBA while on track but I wouldn't judge "windows up" principle so harshly either...
FWIW, I drive with my visor closed, even in Florida heat, for the debris reasons mentioned and have always preferred full face helmet with a small opening.

Those who are strongly "windows down", anyone have info why is it safer for Pros to have windows up, while it's safer for amateurs to have them down?

This brings up the related question: Why does ALMS & FIA GT keep windows up while Grand-Am keeps them down?
Again, when in doubt, I'd go with the Pros so in this case with ALMS & FIA GT.

The extreme position against windows that some have taken in this tread strikes me as buffoonery. You guys are aware that Cup Cars, DP Cars, DTM, Australian V8 Supercars, New Audi LMP1 and the old Peugeot LMP1 cars all have windows, right? It is not Black and White.

In Karen's case I think it is black and white. Sounds like her region requires windows down. That is the rule, so windows down.

That might actually make some sense if they raced street cars fresh off the showroom floor. They don't so it doesn't.....

One should also practice exiting the car through the window at least once so IF you need to get out you have a clue on how to do it.

I always thought that the windows are kept down as running the Air Conditioner robs the engine of power.
