PBOC Classification - Need help
Having moved to FL, I am looking to race with PBOC this year and I am trying to figure out where my 996 would class. A couple of questions:
1) Brakes - I have Cup car brakes on the car. In the Production points section I see I add 2 points for that. Then in the V-class points section I see again a penalty of 2 points for rotors and 2 points for calipers. So is the total penalty 6 points? (this looks like double counting)
2) Rear Wing - I have the Cup car rear wing, same double counting question. Production says 1 point for the wing and V class says 2 points. Again, do I add there together to get to 3 or is it just the 2 points from the V-class section?
3) Splitter - I have the little chin spoiler found on the Cup car. Does that merit the additional 1 point mentioned in the V-class rules?
4) X51 engine - This is the big question, what penalties do I assess for that? There were a bunch of small changes made that result in a rated 25 hp change at the engine. The big change was valves (5 points), but could it be argued that fuel management and manifolds were changed for an additional 10 points! This would kill the competitiveness of the car, noting that the 997 is a K class car with 35 extra hp and only carries 6 points for that. Has only classed an X51 engine before and if so, what was the penalty from the stock J-class 3.6L 996?
It looks like this should be an R3 car, but it could get pushed into R2 where it would get killed by the Vipers. Thanks for any insight!

And one more question about my older 911. It had an engine transplant from the stock 3.2L into a stock 3.6L 993 engine. The displacement penalty is obvious and since the larger engine is stock other than some electronic mods to make the engine work in the earlier body, can I assume no other penalties need to be assessed?
Looks like this car could be strong in R4 if that is the case.

as far as i remember, you need to figure out production and then add the V class points. they are separate.
again, its been a while.
I would say at first guess, you are V3, R5. However, that motor change might have more weight in points than is fair.

Rob, PBOC is a great group to race with. They hired me for their full 2012 season to come to all their events and work with their most advanced drivers, as well as racers. they have renewed my contract for 2013, so I will see you at all their 2013 events beginning with Winterfest at Sebring in January. By the way, if you want to race the 6 hour race there, we can co-drive Happy to make intros to PBOC officials...

Would love to co-drive with you but won't have the time to prep the car for a 6-hour race. Do they run other enduros like that? Would love to do the next one with you.
My big decision is which car to bring to FL first. It will be either the old 911 or the 996 but really need Bob's guidance on classification first. I am leaning towards bringing the old school 911 down with the idea of working with 901 Shop for some additional development on the car. But having the faster 996 here is also attractive. The Ferrari and one Porsche will stay in TX for a while.

More art than science to PBOC as I was classed R5 in the morning at an event a while back and ended the day R3. That's where I remain and my car is somewhat similar to yours but with stock 3.4L.

Spoke with PBOC, not good.
On the 996 there is an 8 point penalty for the X51 engine, making it a very weak entry in R2.
The 911 with a 3.6L is even worse. Penalty for the extra displacement, penalty for heads, penalty for valves, penalty for different electronics package. Keep in mind that these are all stock for a 3.6L engine but they are different than the 1983 body which the engine was dropped into. Crazy that these things would be additive. For example the electronics package is different due because the engine is different, it was not modified to increase power in any way. It was modified because you can't start a 993 engine with SC electronics!
Looks like no PBOC for me. I dearly miss NASA and their simple, logical rule set.
Chad, miss you on the radio. I'll be visiting MSR-C in December if you can make a trip up.

I'd love to meet up with you in December. I just got an M3 that needs to learn MSR-C. Is your # still the same? If not pm me with the new one when you get a chance.
