Default 996 Dash makeover- during pic

I don't have a before snap, but you know when people say its going to get worse before it gets better- sometimes they mean it.

The goal is to cull some weight, install new Aim dash and clean things up a little. If the final product doesn't look better than this, and/or the car won't restart I won't be posting further.

Yes. It can be adjusted up or down by few inches. And the whole shift assembly has been raised a couple of inches so the net effect is pretty close to the steering wheel. I'll take better pictures in due course.

JR Gordon, a frequent poster on the racing forum, redid the dash in his 996. Might be worth a PM or e-mail to see what worked for him.

JRG has been an inspiration- blessing and a curse. My kids may not go to college as I try to get my cars weight close to his.

He has a radical pod in place of a full dash but we have access to a dash mold so will put in a CF dash in place of the stock.
Paring the harness down is totally his recommendation.

When the car fails to start- I will remember that fact.

Found a couple of before pics. Not bad. Functional, but at the least could have some weight and redundancy pared. The gauges for example. You can't see them and they don't work even if you could- and that data will be on the Aim.
Except for the fuel gauge- may have to retain that or get a long stick.

You can see the shifter and the alu shims to boost the height.

VR- planning on Winterfest but not sure if I can make the nite race this year.
If I can, you and god will be my co-pilots.

There is an adapter that can convert the ohm reading from the fuel sender into a voltage signal, allowing the AIM to display the actual number of gallons in the tank right there on the dash. It is not accurate while driving but in the pit you can get very consistent readings. I did this on my 355 Challenge and can now calibrate to the gallon before heading out without emptying the tank or using a stick.

There is a Miata version and a BMW version, you want the BMW version. Turner or one of the other BMW shops carry it.

I get the fuel level as a percentage readout in the lower r-hand corner on my AIM MXL. I've only 16% left in the tank...
