Toyo asked that I give them some time to work on testing and developing a response before talking about this more publicly up to this point, hence the PM's above. They are working on this very actively, especially with the 25 hours of Thunderhill coming up.

I was surprised to see DCP's statement, as I hadn't heard that as a resolution. I asked the Toyo engineer I have been corresponding about this, and this was his reply:

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This information did not come from us and is incorrect. We will be releasing our official recommendation next week.

That message has now come from two of the bigger resellers, although I had to ask one of them to contact Toyo about it. Toyo seems a bit lost on this one. It's a shame.

We should know more in a week. I don't yet know what that will be. They are great tires to drive, and I hope this doesn't delay our getting onto them.

Dan they're extending the expiration until 3-31-13.

To assist competitors with the transition period, Toyo is making a significant concession and allowing any Toyo Bucks issued from this point forward to be used toward the purchase of the new Proxes RR tire along with extending the expiration date on all Toyo Bucks until March 31st, 2013. This should allow competitors collecting Toyo Bucks from now until the end of the year the opportunity to spend their Toyo Bucks on the new RR tires for next season.

I'm confused, are we talking about a problem that occurred with the RA1s or the new RRs?

Glad to hear that the Toyo Bucks will be extended to March 31, 2013 because things seem a little iffy right now in terms of what is safe to use.

I'm a little confused as well. Will racers be allowed to use the RR on Jan. 1 or is this on hold pending further research from Toyo? Rules already state that racers can use RA1 for first two races, but who is going to use those if RRs are 2-3 seconds faster per lap?

The rules draft I sent into NASA last week allows the use of the RR's Jan 1st.
Hopefully we will have a more clear picture to plan around next week. I'll be at the 25 hours next weekend, and will be able to talk to NASA & Toyo officials there.

I don't want to add fuel to the fire, but had the exact problem on 2 of 4 RRs after about 2 heat cycles and about 50 laps in the 8 hour enduro at Road Atlanta this weekend. They were purchased from TireRack about 2 weeks ago. I have another set on order but will probably cancel and wait to see if Toyo will make good on the defective tires.

My R888's do this too...slice across to what seems like a seem.

The fronts do this quicker that the rears...odd...anyone know what is up with this seem/slice thing with Toyo's?

If you are having this this issue with any Toyos, contact them here:

http://toyotires.com/about-us/contact-us

John - I would contact Toyo, as they will replace the tires if they have had this issue. As far as I've seen, this is limited to the 225/50/15 RR, but I don't know that for sure, just haven't seen it in RA-1's R-888's, or other sizes of RR personally.

The tires have to be mounted in a specific direction. Toyo is aware and has a procedure prepared to release.

By the way we have the best prices in the country on the Toyo RR.

Sounds a little scary, since I have been flipping my Hoosiers for the last 4 years with no ill effect. Which side goes out?
