Default Hoosier R100 blow out. Is this common?

Had one let go at mid ohio this weekend. Thank god it was in a safe place and nothing was damaged.

Is this a common these with these tires? I've heard grubblings before but would enjoy any feedback you guys have. If this is a common thing I'm going to be moving on to something else. Mich cups are a little pricey for what I'm doing with the car imo and was going to look at the new conti's or yoko's

Michelins are cheaper than bent frame rails

Glad you and the car are ok.

Was it a R80 front tire or rear tire ?

Has happened to me before, mostly because of bumpsteer, but it happened FAR easier on the Hoosier Slicks than it did on Hoosier DOT's, Yoko slicks or Michelin Slicks (on the same car) They are very sensitive.

You might try the R100 in the rear, and the R80 up front.

How did bumpsteer blow a tire?

I run the R100 rear and 80s' front sorry for the confusion. Was in a hurry to post since I was in a conference call

Here is a pic of the area that separated. If you're familiar with MidO this happend between turn one and turn two very suddenly

I had an R100 fail on the rear of my Ferrari in the same place just a couple of weeks ago. Not all the way around like you, but multiple, non-continuous spots where the fault was about an inch in length. Car was over steering so I fault something wrong, turned out I was losing air from each of the spots. I guess I caught it before it became what you are showing above.

I've been seeing lots and lots of failures on Hoosiers lately. It's a spec tire in the Ferrari series I run but I will not buy another new set for the Porsche.

I'm guessing it was on the rt rear, correct ?
Also what tire pressures were you running ? And how often did you compensate the pressures for heat, or sessions ran ?

Also how much does your car weigh ?
Is this on the 993 GT2 ?
