Default Alignment suggestions for 89 3.2 911

Hey guys,

Anybody have some tried and proven alignment setups for a street/DE car.
Running 22/29 TB's with Tarret monoball camber plates and ER Cambermax with 17 inch Fikses,NT01's and 996TT brakes and ER bushings all around.

At the moment i have -2 front,-2.5 rear camber and 1/16 toe in on all corners with max 5.9 castor.
Car is also driven on the street, any suggestions for my next alignment ?
Any pros or cons regarding toe settings ?

Cheers !
Phil

Max front and rear camber. Try to get more than you have in the front. Tighten your strut brace to pull the strut towers closer together.
Max caster.
1/16" toe-in in the rear is good.
ZERO toe for the front for a track car (maybe even a tiny bit of toe-out if the car was a dedicated track car, depending on your skill level).

You want a good handling track car or a street car?

Thank you,

Looks like i'll go for zero toe front and 1/16 rear toe in with max castor and we'll see how much front camber i can pull with the strut bar.I welded in some RSR strut brackets over the Winter when i installed the Tarret camber plates so i should be good for at least -2.0 maybe more and as far as the rear i could surely get -3.0 with the Cambermax adjusters.

Not a dedicated track car as i would hate at this point to hack a good example of an 89 Carrera, although all it's missing is a full cage and some adjustable sways ...

Cheers !

I miss Tremblant (your Avitar). I used to live in Maine but now in Florida. Sebring is fun, but not like turn 1 at Tremblant!

I agree with settings posted. Toe out in front is great on the track, but you'll hate it on the street. Keep checking your fit of the hood as you crank up the strut brace. Might need to shim out the fenders if you go too far.

I would think you are going to destroy street tires with a full track camber/toe setting, let alone make the car completely twitchy driving down the road. I would back off a bit from the numbers you are talking about, but that's just me.

That's the reason i'm asking for advice as i have to go for an alignment and CB within the next two weeks.
Right now my front alignment is all out of whack due to the new camber plates ...very twitchy indeed !

I'll probably settle on -2.0 FR and -2.5 Rear with 1/16 toe in all around and take it from there while i monitor tire wear.

Yes Tremblant is definitely a fun track, going to try Calabogie Motorsports Park this Summer ... 22 turns .... woooohoooo !

Cheers !

I have this same issue going on.. how much 1/16" is in degrees, 0.13 ?

What you think about 0 toe front and 0.2 degree rear per side ?

Phil, what alignment settings did you end up liking on your car. I'm getting a first alignment on a new to me '89 and would love your advice. I too am thinking about what to do.

Chris ,

Unless you install camber plates on your front suspension it will be difficult to even get -1.5 front camber on both sides. My 911 has returned
to street duty since i purchased the 944 , but i think i’m still at -2.0 front and -2.5 rear with 1/16 toe out in front and 1/32 toe in for the rear.
I’ ll try to reach out to the shop that did my last alignment on the 911 and see what the actual specs are.

I was actively tracking my car with PCA in the black run group for 7-8 years before i decided to go racing with a 944.Pm me if you wish and i can share some of the
setups i tried with the car.

Cheers
Phil

I have near the exact suspension mods on my '88 as Phil does. When the car was being used on both street and DE the last #'s were -2.0 in front with Tarret plates, -1.5 in rear, 0 toe in front and about 1/16th in on the back. It's now only a street car but the handling and tire wear are still great.

If i remember well , the reason i was running -2.5 in the rear is because when i was tracking the car it had 235/40/17 and 275/40/17 BFG R 1’s that i managed to stuff on Fikse FM5 17 inch wheels.I might have dialed out some of the rear camber since, the street tires are 245/40/17 and 275/40/17 Continental DW’’s on Fikse FM10’s that are much narrower and not as tall as the BFG’s.

Cheers
Phil
