I always chuckle at the brand "racism" among certain Porsche owners. Not only am I in line to buy one of Precision's adapter plates so that I can put a Subaru Ej25 engine along with a Cayman G87 gearbox into my 1973 914, but I've also preordered a BRZ. I don't care what anyone else does or says, there's room for both brands of boxers in my garage...

I think the shortblock for my WRX costs about $1500 brand new, so it seems like a great idea to me. Not a fan of the snorkel but other than that the car looks awesome, great fabrication.

love this shot:

This was not intended to be or bring "RACISM" to the forum , but its a slap in the face to Porsche that this is being done as an UPGRADE .

There are happy rumours that the VW-Porsche management will allow the Cayman to get a proper motor from the factory. THAT would be a cool car. The Subie motors are not really endurance-race capable.

What are you talking about? Do you think Porsche really cares that someone is taking a late 90s Boxster and putting in a modded Subie engine--at a high cost that the owner will never recoup? It's a cool project, no doubt, but it's certainly not a slap in the face to Porsche.

For the record, I'm putting an LS1 in our 928 track car.

Curious what this opinion is based on? I can see how someone might think this based on the experiences of a bunch of "20 something" tuner kids who make their cars unreliable based on their ignorance and stupidity and driving style, but don't forget, these engines have been used successfully for a long time in WRC and even in GrandAm. It's true Subaru hasn't made an effort run factory backed race cars in ALMS, but that doesn't mean they couldn't.

Most of the subaru's that have run in the endurance stuff haven't had great luck with motors. Here in things like teh 25 at thunderhill and in the european 24 hour races.

Sorry if I misunderstood your tone. Check out the LSD Buster thread in the 997 GT3 forum if you want to see where I stand on the idea of improving on Porsche's work.

As for the durability of Subaru engines? I'm pretty sure this record still stands. Correct me if I am wrong:
http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/..._leg_press.pdf

EDIT:
I'll correct myself. Subaru held the record from 1989 to 2005 when Mercedes finally broke it:
