Default Peugeot Ends LMP1 Program

No link to attach, but DailySportsCar has just tweeted that they have received confirmation that Peugeot is suspending its LMP program and withdrawing from the WEC championship with immediate effect. Not totally unexpected, but still very sad news.....I will never forget watching them battle it out with Audi when I went to Petit LeMans in 2010, and all of the epic battles they had last year. Hopefully they will be back at some point....

I think the writing was on the wall after LeMans. The head of motorsport said he had promised the board they would win. When you spend that much money to be second, it gets old quick.

I thought that you were supposed to go out on top.

They have won every race that they have competed in since 2009 barring Sebring 2009, Le Mans 2010, and Le Mans 2011.

I'd say they ARE going out on top, unfortunately Le Mans is bad luck.

So, does Audi stay in LMP or move to other venues? It's nice to have all the victories (for marketing purposes) but the competition was great. It is amazing to see how the economic crisis slowly steamrolls nonessential activities on so many levels.

Looking at Audi's crashes at last year's LeMans I'd say there were the ones with the bad luck.

So they won essentially everything but the most important races?

Pretty much. (Except they won Le Mans in 2009, and Sebring in 2010 and 2011)

That was a cool car. But there is more coming up such as Toyota/Oreca creation.

The rules has also changed quite dramatically.

The Peugeot store on the Champs-Élysées is pretty cool. I had dinner there a couple of years ago.
