DTM vs. RSR
Been watching some DTM races from last season that are being rebroadcasted.
Here's something I didn't fully appreciate; the DTM has about 50 hp more than an RSR but weighs almost 500lbs less- yikes!

DTM, like Aussie V8 Supercars, is IMO some of the finest sports car racing on the planet.

Supercup has also been on belatedly recently. Check SPEED on Tues in "primetime"(2:300m). Along with ALMS, DTM and Supercup are the pinnacle of Motorsports in terms of viewing. Not to mention it looks like awesome racing for the drovers as well. So competitive.
One thing I noticed on the DTM cars this year are some unusual cage layouts and geometry- anyone know what's going on there.

Another thing I discovered is, I assumed the huge flares hid huge tires but not so.
While not small the Merc above will run a near square arrangement with 300 up front and 310 in back.
Heck I run 305's.
I guess the flares are not so much for huge tires but for a wider track.

Three Wheelin'
This may be a little OT but can someone explain the vanes on the front bumper of the RSR. In the past on the RSR, similar to the DTM car, these vanes routed air up but not into the bodywork. Now, it appears the RSR has the air routed up and over the front tire - what would be the benefit of this since the air has to go about half way to 2/3rds of the way around the tire before escaping (at least as best as I can tell). And this assumes there is a duct, that I cannot see, in the front bumper above the vanes. On the contrary, the DTM car has the vanes mounted so air is directed up and has vanes in the fender to exhaust air out from the top of the tire - this seems better to me, but what do I know. Anyone know the logic here?
