the 993 GT1 Strassenversion that RIck Deman restored had a great history. it was the second built. there is a great Porsche Sport GT1 1997 book of which the first 1/3 of which covers the car and its sister car. the body panels and other spares were pinched when the , i think it was the #26 gt1 at leman went off. flew overnight to pinch all the bits from this car. later was sold to a high end porsche executive. tons of history, tons of documentation, verified all by letters from PMNA as to its unique authenticity, PGA wanting to buy it, etc. and then it was imported by a big dude in texas. and then it came to NJ for a good bit.
in those 14 years sinces its birth, some basic stuff needed addressing...a ton of suspension bits had corrosion on them, and wheel bearings, and replacing studs, and resealing engine, and brake lines, etc. etc. etc. nothing major. the car was actually featured in that show with that hot shot tv drifting kid (then had the show with paul tracy)...he did the texas mile in it, and it wasnt fast. thing was running on 5 cylinders, and a host of other issues. that poor kid had no idea what he was hopping in to, adn the previous owner that let him rip it at 180mph was beyond negligent in allowing that to happen.
But Deman went thru it top to bottom and thereafter, she ran like the champ she was. very neat car.

That's a car I can only dream of owning. Honestly, the GT1 is about as good as it gets for me. I don't know how you could bear to part with a GT1. I guess when you get to that level, it's not as big of deal (emotionally).
There's a 2 page photo of a yellow 993 GT1 in Randy Leffingwell's book. My 4 year-old knows "that's Daddy's favorite Porsche".

as far as pricing, i never understand the rational behind lofty prices for automotive artwork. its also more amazing that a 1 of 2 PCar, with a crazy history, crazy documentation, crazy lineage, goes for "only" 1.5 , for it if were red, had a prancing pony on the hood, was built or touched or breathed on by a fellow named Enzo, it would be 4 times that figure. There are countless , i mean countless ferraris that trade at 1+, 2+, etc. but its a rare thing for a pcar to do so.
but i understand the sale. As strange as it sounds, id rather spend time testing camber settings, tire pressures, new shock settings sway bars, autoblippers, aerodynamics, staring at youtube videos mastering new tracks....than gawking at auto art. things get hammered on track, thats not something you want to put in harms way. if you cant go 10/10ths, why bother.

ill say this: we've had a bunch of really nice 993 turbos, Turbo S's, 964 flatnoses etc thru this warehouse over the years. Rick Deman has had the same. WIthout question, without hesitation, both Rick and I have remarked many times together that this 993 GT1 has the most amazing interior ever on any 993 we've ever seen.carbon doors, carbon sills, everything just outstanding. fitment of controls and ergonomics incredible. it might not come off that way in a photo but in person, its insane.

just a few photos
i have a ton, if anyone wants any others, let meknow, ill post a few more.
these shows some of the technical advances in the car.
i believe the GT1 leman winner was very , very similar to the road car. a more hopped up engine tune, lower ride height, stripped race interior, but other than that, pretty darn close.

negative. 3 variants. 993s, 2 road cars, 24ish race cars...... 996 24ish road cars, 24ish race cars...and the 996 Evoluzion (evo).i think thats what they were called.
but in the 993 variant, only 2 ever. both cars are highlighted in the Def Efolgstyp 911 GT1. 3 volume book, a nice 120 color pages. each volume pretty much covered each model of the car. the #25 and #26 taht raced and did so well at leman were 993 version.

All i can say is that, I owned the second 993 GT1 Strass. I have paperwork from Porsche , on their letter head, stating the origin and source of my chassis #, that its 1 of 2 prototypes built, the history of them , to whom they were sold etc. and how mine ended up in the United States.
taht said, totally ridiculously awsome machine. for me, it was just too much. i just enjoy pounding cars too much and tht thing was the rarest of the rare. there are like no molds out there to replace the carbon body. front bonnet and rear bonnet were insane pieces of carbon structure.
freakishly, i bought some 993 GT1 race car bits taht someone found, literally, in a barn, for small money. they also went to dubai with my 993 GT1 Strass. i know it went to dubai because i watched it get loaded in a big carton and the paperwork ahd origina dubai.
here is a link to some photos i just loaded. the really nice ones were from a photoshoot that Excellence magazine did last year at Monticello motorclub with my gt1. there was also a photo of the car as inspected by Ray Joseph in texas when the car was bought from Drivers Source.
