Welcome to club racing - start saving up! lol Main Pca rule of racing - if it doesn't say you can do it - you can't - sounds like you probably have to progress up 1 class - but I don't know what class or car your starting with - do you want to race in stock classes or GT etc. ?

It's in the rule book (page 29). GTB1 are 3.6L cars. GTB2 cars are over 3.6. Both require the stock ECU.

I don't understand the "bosche ecu" thing but why not make it stock and run in H.

of course you can do it, you just might be outclassed. for the cost of race fuel, you should consider converting back, especially if it will result in better racing for you.

thanks all
i called trg they built the car
trg was a pleasure to speak with very helpful but they did tell me that converting back to stock ecu was very complicated and of course costly
yes i read the rule book the engine is 3.6 but non stock ecu
i am new at this so i am not sure how it works
it seems to me it would therefore push me one class up to gtb2
is that correct
thanks

I'm assuming this is a Koni Challenge Car correct? If so the car has modifications (like the ECU) that place it outside the parameters of the GTB classes. It's a great ECU, the Koni cars dyno'd around 325 RWHP or more. It probably also has the Bosch ABS system which is ****. It would such a waste to convert it back to run GTB. There's hardly anyone there to race in GTB, so why not run it GT3 where it fits best and has large fields?

According to the CCR's (page 28), you could run as light as 2777 (3.6 x 140 x 5.51) which is about 400lbs, lighter than the car ran in Grand Am. My shop has just completed converting a 997 Koni car to GT3. Mostly they just lightened the bleep out of the car with CF door, roof, hood, etc. and pared down the heavy wiring harness. Not inexpensive, but it will be a very, very competitve GT3 car....

PS: What part of the country are you located in?

rkrishner is a great guy, and good driver, it'll be fun watching your progression through the ranks. Been running DE's with him for the last few years.

Is it just me or are there a lot of people buying Koni challenge cars lately, this is the third I've heard of this month.

If they can be bought right like the OP's car, then they're a great platform to start with as long as they're straight. The GS cars played bumper tag way too often but usually it was just cosmetic. They come with lots of good stuff but their achilles heel is weight. IIRC their minimum weight was 3,000 lbs. empty, almost what they weighed completely stock. Lose the weight and the Konis, get some 9's & 11" x 18" rims so you can run cup tires (anything but the GA Hoosiers), and add a cup car deck and wing. You'll have a very competitive GT3 car looking for a driver....
