It's not exactly the same really, but the same concept of blinking lights being more visible than a constant light. I have more control over the lights and the pattern that they flash in.

Jim, I actually made some good progress today

Watch the pink cayman in this video at about the 1 minute mark for what I was talking about. This is what I remember seeing -- not a camera effect.

I'm fairly certain the flashing in the video is what Dave talked about. It is a result of the camera frame rate vs the LED pulsing rate. All the 2010 and later cup cars look or flash that way on video but don't appear to pulse or flash in person. The late cup cars don't have any sort of light control module to cause a flashing light. It's either on or off.

There were a few cars running in GTS at the Mid-O Nationals that had flashing brake lights....and I have been behind a Cayman Interseries car that had them as well.

My HD video at 60 FPS makes all the LED based lights flash Porsche or other. The LED lights flash in a rotating pattern on the Porsches. I have not seen any that you can tell are flashing when directly observed. That pesky persistance of image thing...

To the OP you don't need to play around and make something. you can purchase them outright. Bikers have been using them for years. I had a brake light flash box on a bike back in the 80s

I've seen the vids with the pulsing LEDs, different from the flashing seen in person on/at the track, it was most prevalent in the foggy morning, could be some were FIA/LMS rain lights on the prototypes but doesn't explain the others...

Factory? Aftermarket? Aliens?...

I don't get it. Are you concerned that other drivers won't notice you're braking -- in a braking zone on a track?

Or is this a street driving thing?

Right. Pulsing, flashing...whatever. While it might not match exactly what's shown in the video I posted due to frame rates and video capture, there is some sort of strobe effect with the tail lights on that car when seen in person.

If I recall F1 has a flashing Rain light. I can see where a rapidly folashing light would stand out more than a steady one. You can purchase flashers for your lights now. If, where and when to use is a thread of itself.
