Default 993 stock brake pads

Hey Everyone

I have a track event coming up at summit point main track and this will be the first time I will be tracking my 993 c4s. I have about 12 years worth of track experience with a dedicated race car so it's been a while since I took a completely stock car out for a full track day.

My question has to do with the stock pads and how well they can hold up to a full day worth of abuse (stock fluid too). I would imagine they should be fine, but if anyone has any experience please let me know.

Since it's a c4s it does have the big reds or turbo brakes. The car had less than 30k on mileage and the pads have been recently replaced.

Thanks for the help!

Unless you take it pretty easy (tough to define though, easy for some is pushing hard to another), they most likely won't be able to hold for a whole day. I once went through a new set if pads in Moroso in less than a day.

Or you'll have heat issues. Or both.

I'd get at least fresh ATE fluid in there but IMO you need to get better pads especially since you don't have any extra coolin.

Thanks for the input! Any suggestions on pads? I usually use reybesos (however you spell it ) or hawks on other cars, so I'm clueless as to what is a good setup for the 993.

Summit is tough on brakes. I would check them at mid day to see how much you're using and then again at the end of the day. If a 2 day event then make sure you're going to have enough pad left for day 2. Pads are available at the OG Racing store at Summit Point. If you decide that you want track pads prior to the event, give us a call.

Get yourself a set of Pagid RS-29's (Yellow) and you will be VERY pleased.

Stay away from Hawks unless you wish to buy rotors.

Thanks Steve! I'll go out and get a set asap. I have motul rbf 600 which might be over kill but I have a ton of it in stock.

The next challenge will be brake bleeding since my car has ABS/ABD.

RBF600 is just perfect!

No worries on the brake bleeding; use a Motive pressure bleeder as that makes this very painless.

Like others have said - Paid yellow 29 and a fresh fluid bleed and you will be good. Just do a normal power bleed and you will be good.

Not unless you open the system and need to run the ABS pump.

Thanks for the help. I will post up a video link after the event in case anyone wants to see. Have a couple of chase cams I'm itching to use.

Pagid blacks are great on the 993; nice feel, good bite, and reasonably easy on the rotors.

Pagids work well. If you are changing out stock fluid to the Motul then yes you need to pump out the ABS system. You will use ABS at Summit. Especially T1 and bottom of T4. Hawk DTC pads are fine too, but the Pagids are easier on the rotors.

Crap. I dont think I'll have time to get durametric in time to properly bleed the brakes. I have a motive brake bleeder and was hoping to go with these directions: http://p-car.com/diy/flush.html

What would happen if I did a bleed without pumping out existing fluid from the abs pump and ran the fluid for a day and switched back to stock after?

You're fine with bleeding with motive.
Why would you switch back to stock fluid?

Also, performance friction (97 compound) brake pads work great with 993s.
