California...really??? Aren't you guys already your own socialist country? How do you elect Jerry Brown (aka Weekend at Bernie's propped up dead guy in the corner) as your Governor? I mean seriously... between the taxes, bankrupt government, socialist politics, fires and unbelievably high real estate prices, who the he'll is clamoring to go to California? Maybe it was cool in the 60's and 70's but now it's a rudderless ship.

Ok, enough ranting. Dave, come to Florida. No income tax, real estate prices are low, balanced budget, Sebring, Daytona, PBIR, Homestead, the people are friendlier (except the transplants in South Florida...), great beaches, lots of water (everything is always green), Republican State House and Senate and Republican Governor. Finally, a helluva nice guy in Boca that only just asks for free advice once in a while...

So a bit of a tough sell, tracks notwithstanding.
Well, I understand. The realestate issue is a major one. I don't know a way around that right now, unfortunately. But if they hit Prop 13, well - the values will tank.

The CC laws - well - there must be some very special people around here because I see it all the time.

Hahahaha! We actually did once look at Vero Beach when I nearly bought a motorsports-related business based there in 2004...

Hope some of that free advice, especially the recent one, has been helpful

I like the suggestions here for north carolina. Great place imho. I am spending some time in Japan next year and could easily move away from DC when I come back, but my career is better here for the time being. I might end up in san diego or north cal someday.

Well if you're seriously right wing, you want to buy realestate for pennies on the dollar, like to pack heat without a CWP into any bar, have a sheriff that has a posse to round up all the illegals or anyone that looks like one, neandrethals running the public policy and don't mind a dry heat, you're more than welcome in az...but call ahead we may not be here when you get here...

Alberta:

Low property taxes
No sales tax
Universal health care
CDN$ on par with US$
Safe with low crime rates
Lots of water
oh yeah....and 7 months of winter a year with no tracks in the whole freakin' province!

I can't believe people are suggesting California as difficult but saying Chicago fits his requirements. Illinois but Chicago specifically is a police state of such epic proportions, it makes California look like the wild west.

Pardon the family shots. They will normally be in the beach pictures.

Wow BC.... I've lived here a long time and haven't had any police issues.... My friends still live in San Diego and one if them has had issues actually having an officer check under the car to see if he still had his cats on his exhaust ...but I guess to each his own .

I liked this one because of the mountains (hills) in the background with the rolling mist (marine layer)

We are making generalizations here - maybe just I am. I lived 22 years in the suburbs of Chicago. That was more than enough for me, and the best (And I mean Best) decision I ever made (other than my wife) was to move out here.

Some examples: San Diego - only marked patrol cars and CHP (Border agents have more leeway - but if you aren't mexican you're fine) Chicago - I remember seeing all sorts of plain-wrap or even random truck or corvette or mustang cop cars. And they stop you for stupid ****. In San Diego in particular I have been stopped several times - but these guys do not stop you for little stuff. It has to add up for them to bother. 90mph+ no plate+ etc -

San Diego particularly does have issues with the Asians doing just STUPID **** to their cars, and street racing. Big issue in Socal because we have alot of interesting cars and people will do that sort of thing.

One thing I remember specifically about Chicago that one may or may not immediately notice once they get out of paradise - People don't smile in Chicago. Whether its the weather, the high crime, the stupid police state mentality of the highway patrol mixed with the "if it wasn't true it'd be comedy" chicago politics - nobody smiles.

But that's neither here nor there for Dave. I will keep my prejudice out.

Canada. I'll rent you a room while you settle in, and it's not really that cold in the cities. I'll warn you, though, that our conservatives aren't the handgun totin', executin' type.
