While they try to race here in the US in the more normal temperate months the US is a pretty big place. So it brings up racing in the summer. In the Southern US. Where it is hot. As it is summer when poeple may have vacations and their families can go it can be a good time. It is still 100 F here at night. Add the heat of the car and the heat of the track and now you can get 140 or so in
the car.

Technology is a good thing dont you think. We have cars and planes instead of horses and row boats. Comfort can be a good thing. Safety is a good thing. Only a few folks make big salaries to do this stuff. Most have to be back at work to pay the bills and keep racing.

Out of curiosity, do F1 drivers have standard cool shirts, AC type cooling for their bodies and heads, or nothing?

Maybe it's because we drive longer races.
With drivers like Sato you are correct, no cool suit needed.

My car is a dedicated track car with no insulation. I live in Texas where track temps will hit 120 F easily add to that the heat from the engine the interior car temps can get very hot. The cool shirt makes it very tolerable. On top of that it is no longer a hobby but an addiction.

I don't know how much track time costs for you, but the entry fees for DE days around me are $200+, so if I'm at the track, I'm going to run no matter what the weather is (provided that conditions are not unsafe). I'm not rich enough to throw away the entry fee because it's too warm...besides, tires grip hot asphalt better, which makes me faster - why would I want to miss that?!

So...if it's a really hot weekend we should just skip it and stay home? I wear a cool shirt, helmet blower and use a water bottle. Hell, I'd buy a device to cool my ***** if they made it. I'm just waiting for the Japanese to make it a cheap knockoff of one that's designed in the States.

Because I haven't figured out how to change the weather from April until October, and I enjoy driving too much to only do it when the weather in Georgia is cool. Shoot, when I was a kid, I water skied from April until October.
