So the car was overfilled with oil the first time (who filled it?) and caught on fire your second outing? I must say my attitude would be a bit more "directed" if it was me!
Hope all goes well for you Dave.

Dave, sorry for your woes. You should at least take off the engine cover and see if there is anything obvious. If you want to swing by, we can put it on my lift and see too. Does it still run?
One word of advice, don't pull on to the grass if you're on fire, as it can make it worse (if it dry and also catchs fire). Find a gravel trap or just pull on some extra pavement.

Hey Guys,
Don't let this get out of proportion, car and engine are totally fine... runs like a champ...
AOS is still letting oil get ingested sometimes and the fire was oil in the exhaust being burned out the tail pipes... singed the rear bumper, but thats the extent of it...
Even with the proper oil level it is sucking it in through the AOS, so now we are going to adapt the Motorsport dual chamber AOS and re-test... that should solve the problem..
Stay tuned...

That pic looks like the bumper cover of my RSA once upon a time. A loose oil breather tube was allowing excess air into the breather system drawing oil in to the intake and then leaning on decell causing some massive flames out the pipe. Looked awesome during a night race but made a mess of the bumper. Other than a the flames and a slight drift at idle the car ran fine otherwise, I would be looking for a vacuum leak.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
I really did not want this thread to turn into a finger pointing thing. Am I distressed over this whole thing? Yeah, of course I am. Am I the only guy on RL who gets distressed over car problems? Of course not!
I've done a ton of reading on the AOS in these cars. There are dozens of posts on Planet 9 where drivers have this same issue after left handers. The fact that the smoke and eventually fire occurred at the same place every time (after L turns 1 and 3 at MMC) makes me think this is the issue. I.e. I agree with Rick.
The majority of cars do not have this issue even with grippy tires and suspension. There is actually a TSB in the UK for the 986 in which Porsche recommends installing the Mtorsport AOS for persistently smoking cars.
Rick has built tons of very fast Boxsters and the problem is usually solved by running relatively low levels of oil at certain tracks (like 1 e-bar on the display). I think he is as surprised as the rest of us that my car has been overwhelming the AOS so easily.
He is going to work on installing the Motorsport AOS on my car which according to a number of posts on other sites should fix this problem.
Rick has been in close contact with me throughout the conversion process and certainly feels bad that I've had such problems. I'm confident that he'll get the kitty back on its paws.
I'll see some of you at NHMS this week for the NCR finale. I actually washed my 997 for the event. Personally I'm looking forward to the PIG ROAST.

I've been racing my 3.4 for 2 years and replaced the AOS about a year ago. It still smokes on start up occasionally; there doesn't seem to be any consistancy as to why or when. The 2 chamber version worked well on the 3.6 Grand Am cars, it should work equally well on the 3.4 motors. Please let us know....

Update,
Porsche Motorsport 987/Cayman dual chamber AOS has been successfully adapted to the M96 engine in the Boxster. Really nice fit using all Porsche parts from various years and size engines..
Will be testing operation later this week...
