Default what 'streetable' dot r-comps for 9"/12" 18" wheels are left?

Hi,

I looked at toyo web site - looks like they removed any tire sizes for RA1 tires bigger than 275. Nitto NT01 has only 235, 245, 275, 315 but 315 tires got smaller diameter than any fronts so due to ABS issues one cannot use them on 997 cars. as 335 RA1 does not exist anymore so NT01 is also out.

So question is - what the heck is left out there in DOT r-comps with tread other than R888 tire in sizes like 255/305 or 255/315 or 265/315?

Is it pretty much the end of 18" r-comps? What do people who used to run on RA1 or NT01 tires are going to use now? R888? Or go back into street tires like RE11?

Regards, Paul.

people at AX were not very happy about MPSC, not sure, I kinda never even considered them.
their 295 will probably stretch OK on 12" rim but for 9" fronts 235 look to be a bit small? plus they are taller than 295. 265 are of same height as 295 at 25.2", may be that will not upset ABS but again, ideally front tire has to be at least half inch lower than rear tire. i`m not sure.

It's the standard 996 GT3 sized tire.

Works like a charm for me.

Only Hoosiers and slicks are stickier.

do you run 235 tire on a 9" wide rim?

as of ABS - 996 does not have same ABS crap 997 cars have... to be honest i never got ABS errors myself but i was told by other people i know and by my mechanic that 997 cars do not tolerate situation with front tires taller than rears.

ABS doesn't like tires with >3% difference in diameter.

Std. GT3 rims are 8.5" fronts but my E88s may be 9".

Darn, I use them on my street car (Viper) and get about 3000 miles out of them, will need to look for a new pair soon.

http://nittotire.com/index.html#inde...2Ent01%2Esizes

NT01 275/35 25.55" diameter 315/30 25.35" diameter. 813 / 819 revs per mile. Divide the 2/10" difference by half and you're only 1/10" different.
Surely that's close enough??

looks close enough. still it would be great if anybody here who uses 275/315 tires on 997 car could confirm if ABS is not giving CELs on such setup. my mechanic told me not to do such things, so i never tried.

BFG now haqws a 335 sized tire. FWIW, I don't lke MSPC as they take too long to get to temp for me. Perhaps you should contemplate a small tire trailer rather than compromise tires. Then you could simply run Hoosiers at teh track.

When I had my 996 GT3, I ran some Dunlops that were slightly larger diameter in the front than in the back with no problems at all. IIRC the variation was about the same or marginally greater than you are considering with the Nittos. Personally, I would not give it a second thought.

235 PSC's work fine on a 9" wheel, that's what's on my car now.

they SUCK as an auto-x tire though, no way you can get enough heat in them to work in that environment.

Yes on 996 cars rear diameter is smaller than front...on 997 cars it's opposite....front diameter is smaller and rear is bigger.

Still some older date 335/30x18s out there, but front sizes are getting hard to find...I think I am going to try the R888s.

Try the R888...run them at a lot less pressure than you ran RA1's...no more than 35hot...on a 997 car try 33/35 and bleed down to 31/33 hot and see which works best for your car and driving.
