Default Will my Touareg TDI pull this no problem?

https://rennlist.com/forums/for-sale...d-trailer.html

Am getting the bug to go from open to closed trailer (I know...slippery slope)

With this trailer, car and misc track stuff, I'll be pretty close to the 7700 lb max tow rating on my Touareg. My VW salesman told me it should be just fine as they purposely list tow ratings with "room to spare" so to speak.

Currently I tow an open trailer, which when loaded with car and supplies is probably around 5000 lbs. There are zero issues. I really love the Touareg, and was hoping something like this trailer would be ok to tow with my vehicle.

Advise appreciated.

This beast.... Toureg? Hell no. That thing comes in a 4000lbs empty and will toss the Toureg around like a rag doll. You might get by with 20ft aluminum trailer behind the Toureg, but for this trailer I would not tow with less than a 3/4 ton pick-up Chevy, Dodge, Ford gas or diesel.. take your pick.

Mark in one word: NO. The biggest problem with an enclosed trailer is that it will gain weight as you find more stuff to toss into it. Trust me it happens.

Stick with the open trailer and VW, or get a dedicated truck/trailer and store at a yard, or have a shop handle the transport and support.

As big a fan of the Toureg/Q7/Cayenne for towing, even I think that's a lot to ask. It's not so much wether it will pull it (it will), but wether it will be stable enough doing so, and brake & turn well.

I pull an 18 foot (but only 7 foot wide & slightly reduced height) steel enclosed trailer that I had custom ordered to minimize size and weight, to pull comfortably. It weighs 2,700lbs empty (around 6K fully loaded), and is very stable towing behind my Q7 for 20K + miles, even with full ABS stops, and winds so bad that we've passed storm chasers looking for tornados in Oklahoma.

My point is, if you do it right, you can pull an enclosed trailer with one of these, but not with one that large & heavy.

In addition to the weight, the short wheelbase will make it a horrible experience.

No. Too long of a trailer for the wheelbase of the Toureg + too close to max tow rating (forget the BS the salesman told you).

I would not. even if the Toureg was perhaps able to pull in per se, there is not enough frame+wheelbase on it. You could be looking at a tail wagging the dog situation.

Be safe, get a proper tow vehicle if you must tow a large trailer. Get a good brake controller (and set it up properly), weight leveling hitch also.

BE SAFE.

I have a nice Dodge Dually I can trade for your Touareg - it'll pull two of those!

At 4,000 empty plus car and spares, etc - figure 7500-8000 and you're starting to get up to the limit of some of the earlier 1/2 ton trucks...

Have decided based on all these comments to stay with what I have for now. I don't want to change out my Touareg since it is such a great daily driver and does a nice job towing the open trailer. Sorry Christian, I'd like to help you out, but the ex cleaned me out, so I don't have that kind of play money available.
