Also, they don't dwell on it, but helmet and face cooling are keys to keeping the driver in an optimal temperature range.
"Conventional" cooling ideas (shirt, balaclava) are perhaps the wrong parts of the body to cool.

They have been working on that for a long time. Lead to at least one startup. Last time I looked they were struggling a bit with fundraising if I recall correctly.
I think the train is on the tracks, and we may see something in motorsports eventually.
I bet there is a lot of interesting IP already out there.

I wonder if there is any research out there about driver's core temps using a cortemp device: http://www.hqinc.net/cortemp/
I know about their research in other sports.
One of the most experienced with Cortemp is Dr. Fowkes Godek: http://www.wcupa.edu/_academics/heal...heat/about.asp. They have done studies with the Eagles with Rich Burkholder.
