I am sorry! This makes me sick to my stomach. If I lived up there I'd be out there looking for you.

Setup a "Search" on autotrader. Put in the specs and it will notify you if any of those cars shows up that match.

What did the police say?

Thanks everyone; lookouts up north and down south most appreciated.

Police say looks like organized crime group b/c no glass break-in, no alarm activated and must have had program for ignition. Sounds like they were pros.

I'll try the Autotrader search; thanks.

ALL ideas solicited and much appreciated.

Scott

Scott, so sorry to hear about this. This just pisses me off so much. We need swift vigilante justice for scumbags like this. I'll keep my eye out for parts and such.

I keep wishing I could update with the better news, but not yet.

IF, I can ever afford to get back into the game, tracking devices will go on, FIRST THING! What do you use/recommend? Seems to me, it needs significant battery life and not just hardwired. Thoughts?

There is a special place in hell for asshats that do things like that... Did you have insurance on the vehicles? X post this on all the forums for everyone to see.

Escort has a great system that tells you not only where something is using GPS (not archaic systems like LoJac) but will notify you via SMS & Email if something even moves. No need to WAIT for something to be stolen and then track it.

Thanks again, all. Makmov, Arapahoe County SO has the case, has distributed a poster with pictures on it entitled "High Dollar Auto Theft" and it was presented at a joint meeting of auto theft investigators from different CO jurisdictions yesterday. Investigator is a member of International Auto Theft Investigators and is sending to those contacts today. It's on NCIC, which is supposed to be helped by tag readers at border crossings, but apparently VINs are checked if not too busy at the crossings. I don't imagine the original tags are on the truck or trailer (probably first thing that came off). I know the area you're talking about around Hampden and Santa Fe; drove all over and in alleys and parking lots on Sunday. Left a message with that 1000-slot storage facility south of Hampden near Ft. Logan, but haven't heard anything. Still need to check out the northern/NE Denver areas and CC. CC has a rep for chop shops, but Adams Cty, CC PD, Thornton PD, Denver PD and others were part of that presentation yesterday, so their people should be aware.

Shamus, thanks for that idea, too. I had searched allofcraigslist.com, but not searchtempest.com yet. I'll do it now.

Maybe, just maybe....... God, I hope so.

Mike, I was asleep at home, truck, trailer with race car locked in trailer in front of my house with truck locked. No immobilizer, alarm didn't sound, no broken glass. Police think pros with an ignition program of some sort. Not encouraging because it looks like pro hit. GPS tracking; gotta have it, I guess. If I can ever afford to get back into the game, GPS tracking will be first thing. What kind of GPS system is best, works on batteries (so active even when ignition of race car, for example, is off), has long battery life and would protect a trailer when it's not powered by the tow vehicle? Ideas, experience?

That does sound like pro's for sure....I guess with Fords being so common, its likely that sort of skill set is out there.

I have no clue about GPS tracking, especially ones hidden in vehicles so its active and can be tracked down. that sounds like a hell of an idea though...hopefully someone chimes in.

How is the insurance coverage? I hope the trailer and contents were covered, if not, that sucks hugely.

I wonder if they were just targeting the truck or the entire package?

Again, sorry that this happened...I have had my house broken into about 5 times over the last 15 years, and its NOT fun.

Cheers,

Mike

Unbelievable... Did you check with all of the surrounding neighbors to see if they heard or saw anything that might help with a lead? I'll keep an eye out for it and hope that "johnny law" comes through.

BREAKING NEWS: stripped trailer recovered, but it's still a trailer. Race car possibly spotted by Denver Police on Wednesday night (5/18/11), tried to pull it over, but sped off in the rain at over 100 mph (on Hoosiers) and lost it.
