Default PCA 964 stock class wheel/tire sizes?

I have a quick question for you guys racing a 964 in PCA stock class. What tire size and wheel widths are you running front and back?

Not sure about other 964s but RSAs came with 7s and 8s so 8s and 9s are the max width in stock (9s and 10s in prepared).

I ran 17" x 8" fronts with 245/40/17 Hoosiers and 17" x 9" rears with 275/40/17 Hoosiers on my old G-stock RSA.

Funny I run the same sized wheels as you did. ....and tires except a 245/40 up front.

I also have another set of 17x7 front wheels but hope to replace those w/ 8s at some point.

Doh..... They are in fact 245/40 up front. Sorry about the bad info---I will edit my original post. How's the race season treating you thus far?

Hey, I've only done the Summit race so far but got 2nd place in my first race to Baron. Hoping to make the VIR race at the end of June...then probably only Summit again. Hopefully more next year.

Jim,

Interesting as the 17" option wheels on my C2 are 7" and 9". I run 8" and 9.5" BBS for the track and club racing with 225/265 MPSCs or 225/275 Hoosiers. I run in F stock.

Skip, that brings up an interesting question. According to PCA rules they allow an inch bigger in width for the stock classes front/rear than OEM. I'm having a set of wheels built by CCW and they seem to think a 9.5 and 8.5 might still be legal in stock class. John is checking around. I'm presently doing upgrades to my car for DE and would like the car to fit into a class if I ever sell her.

Jim, really appreciate the offer of a PM.

Would be interesting if the C2 could run wider wheels than a RSA. The RSA came w/ 7s & 8s and afaik the only 4 options were A/C, sunroof, limited slip and a stereo.

I knew the turbos and euro RS's came with wider wheels but didn't know they were an option on C2s.

My 7 and 9 are not standard, but were options, so stock can run 1" wider than these sizes. Yes I believe the 16" wheels were the same widths as what you are talking about Jim.

As for 8.5" in the front, that will bump you out of stock as that is 1.5" wider than any wheels for the 964 from the factory.

Hey Skip,

Yeah I don't know what was available on C2s, just that RSAs only came w/ 17 x 7&8 (afaik and as in the links above).

I did find this chart on Bill V's 964/993 thread on Pelican which I thought was interesting, but not sure of it's orgin or accuracy except it looks correct for the RSA.

Guys,

Just checked the PET and the 17" 7 and 9 are options for the C2/4. I cannot tell about the wheels for the RSA, but can't believe the wheel choices from the factory would be any different or even thinner. I would feel very comfortable using 8 and 10 in stock and know a lot of 964 stock cars using those wheel sizes.

Not according to my version of PET

theses are the original equipment wheel sizes per PET
stock C2/4 got 6 & 7 or 8 x16

The M403 option is 7 & 8 x17

RS got 7.5 & 9 x17

T & TL got 7 & 9.5 x17

3.6T got 8 & 10 x18

theses are the approved wheel sizes, but they were not on the cars when they left the assembly line

Just to follow up. Skip, your right. Turns out the widest wheel I can go on my 1991 964 C2 is 9's and 8's if I plan on the car staying in the stock class. Car came with 8's and 6's OEM with 8's and 7's as an option. Also confirmed this with Walt Fricke (Technical and rules chair) PCA Racing.
