Insurance for a Race Car
I just picked up a '75 911 RSR Replica
Looking for guidance on insurance for PS&T.
Excuse the cheezy Pix and my ugly mug -- It's the only one I have but
as I'm often told -- a post without a pix is a waste.
thanks,
Mike

Assuming PS&T = STP = storage, transport, and paddock, I had great service from Motorsports Coverage and the price was right. Never had to file a claim, but I know people who have and all they had to do was make one phone call.

mine is insured as a race only car (does not need to be registered) for transit, storage and padock. Nothing is insured whilst on the track, but it gives me piece of mind if i total it while trailering or if somneone borrows it It is insured for a guarenteed value.

race car insurance
Hold on there guys....I think you are a bit misguided on this stuff.
I actually write for Hagerty and can tell you that there are some misnomers going on here.
Hagerty gives limited coverage for Transport, loading, moving within the paddock and while on display, however it is NOT a policy that acts like a normal auto policy.
Contrary to DanR's thinking, there is NO coverage for permissive use...like allowing someone to borrow your car. Nor is there coverage for your car on track or public roadways; sorry Dan.
Please, please, please don't assume anthing with these policies as they are very specialized and for specific usage.
Now there are places that do cover race cars on track and "teams" for other things. LocktonAffinity is one of the best for on track coverage. Some have spoke about a company called OnTrackInsurance.com. Not sure who they are and what they are about, but you may want to look into them.
If you have questions I can answer, please feel free to ask. I will do what I can to help and if I don't have the right answer, I will say so.

Despite the full cage and race prep my 924S is still street legal/registered. I switched my limited use cars from Allstate to Hagerty and saved a bunch. Gundy had good prices but wouldn't insure the 924S.

Hi,
to be clear I said I had transit, storage and padock. When I said if someone borrows the car I guess it got lost in translation ...... I meant if someone steals the car, I also said that "nothing i insured whilst on the track"
thnaks for the post as I know it was well meant

Thanks for the clarificiation Dan....you're right than.
As you suspected, it did get a little lost in the translation and the post was only meant with good intention.
Ya know, my old football coach was interviewed once and he was asked about his potential all league center (me). His response was classic: "Well, he's big, but he's slow." Funny how that kind of applies here...

Fooshe,
FWIW, I have competition insurance through Laurel Consulting Group. Has served well.
I also have Hagerty for some collector vehicles and fortunately have never had to make a claim.
Does Hagerty insure for theft on the limited NON ON-track insurance policy you describe? i.e. trailer, tools, spares and race car stolen from track or storage location? If theft and/or storage location is in Canada?
TIA
