I agree, it is moronic and ignorant. But look at it on the bright side - it could've been called Frito Lays Speedway instead.

The ignorance is in the implication and lack of the definite article 'The' . This shows a fundamental ignorance of the English language.
It implies 'The Circuit of the Americas' as if there is only one in the Americas, when, in fact, there are two currently in use by F1. It would be correct and acceptable if they would have used the indirect article 'A'. A Circuit of the Americas. They could have gone so far as to use an adjective like 'Best'.
The Best Circuit of the Americas. Then the folly would lay in the hubris, but Best is arbitrary.

I like the name and to me it makes sense.
I can almost see the Montreal F1 track from home (I do see the Casino in the center of it) but I don't begrudge Texas for having the "Circuit of the Americas".
Both major cultures of the continent (or continents, I don't care) share Texas as part of their history.
Geographically it makes sense, too.
And, come on! Everything in Texas is huge, no?
And what warms my heart is that the people putting it together don't seem like the douchebags who are putting F1 circuits elsewhere. Other new places price themselves so high it might actually be cheaper to rent the Monaco street circuit. Then they stand empty most of the time with only some pro races and occasional fancy people driving their Ferrari's badly.
To have a DE at a genuine F1 track is beyond cool.

VR, you're much too sensitive about this track. As Shakespeare once wrote, "What is in a name"
I see what they are trying to do with an all encompassing name, but I don't think many people care what it's called as long as it's a "Tilke" track that works in terms of exciting racing and passing.
The track should be fine for MotoGP, it's F1 that we're worried about.
I'll be there in year 1 or 2, can't decide because I don't know if the infrasctructure around the track will be ready in time, but regardless, all eyes will be on Austin in about 14 months!

IMHO they could have come up with a better name. Austin International Raceway (AIR) and Austin Motorsports Park (AMP) come to mind, or Circuit de Austin America if you want to go with a European flavor.

Don't let us hurt your feelings. You make us think that you personally have come up with the name which makes the whole thing even funnier. I know you're looking for work but you're trying too hard. Take a deep breath instead.

So you actually like the name?
This is not a rant (as i don't think the previous complaint was) but why does everything have to be politically correct, no offense to anyone, generic etc.
And as already said by others, even though you live in Texas, there's no need for you to be so sensitive when someone even slightly critics something related to this, trust me, this is not personal to you, nor anyone else living in Austin or Texas. Good is good, and bad is bad no matter where people saying so, live.
Think about names like Watkins Glen, Silverstone, Sebring, Le Sarthe, Monza, Spa-Francorchamps, Zandwoort etc. etc. etc.
Those are names that actually mean something, often the name of the place where the track is but this "Circuit of the Americas", while I guess you can argue it means something since it's in "Americas" but really, it's just a generic crap that doesn't mean everything.
Why couldn't it be "Austin City Limits" or something?
OK, that's not serious but there could've been plenty of names with Texas or Austin in it or if you really needed to be more PC, USA or America but this ghay version of it?

Still waiting for you to actually answer my question. I guess it IS just New York jealousy reariing its ugly head...
Finn, I neither like or dislike the name. The name doesn't matter. but for some sour-grapes folks to label it as "morinic and ignorant", without explaining why, reflects more on them than anything else, don't you think?
I have no idea why this name was picked. I guarantee everyone will still call it the Austin F1 track. But seeing all the 20-20 hindsiight armchair QB's here is pretty comical.

I would been more than happy to have lent my opinion if they had asked.

New York City named 6th Avenue "Avenue of the Americas".
Since the intent of that name was to honor the Organization of American States (from Canada to Chile), we Texans don't get too worked up about the appearance of NY arrogance. One would have to be ignorant to believe that New Yorkers consider this street to be the only street in the Americas to have international significance, or even think of it as the center of the univerrse. Right?

New Yorkers call 6th Ave "6th Ave." Out-of-towners who don't know better call it the way they see it on the street sign. I've been to Austin half a dozen times. It's a very cool town and nothing like the rest of Texas. I'll leave it at that.
