Lightbulb Best book on racing driving tactics and strategies?

What is the best book on racing drivers tactics and strategies?

When I was a pup, “The technique of motor racing,” written by a Gran Prix driver and endorsed by a few World Champions was the undisputed best book on how to drive a racecar to get faster laps.

It takes two to have a race. There are books about the tactics and strategies of World War one flying aces, books on the tactics and strategies of sailors on the high seas. Might have read one on Down Hill racers, and Bobby Fishers book on the tactics and strategies of winning chess. I have even seen books on Apache Raiding and Warfare tactics and strategies.

Has a book been written that stands out above the rest, about the tactics and strategies of passing, of racing a car against another person?

The technique of motor racing

That is a tough one. All the books I have contain maybe one chapter on tactics/strategy.
Going Faster, Driving in Competition & The Successful Racecar Driver all have a good chapter or two. Not real deep.

You can always ask specific questions here. We also have courses on those topics (with more coming) and the mechanism to discuss the specific courses.

Probably an opportunity for someone to write that book, if no one else knows of one. But racing books are huge projects with low returns.

Well, I asked for it.

The first part is way too broad a question to reasonably answer. It goes to what situation, what cars, what are the differences in the cars. Also how much experience do you have - how much to they have. Have you raced much with them. How do you view each other as competitors (have you made it clear in previous races that they have to work hard to pass you and you will attempt to pass at every opportunity - are they intimidated by you)? There is no easy answer to such a broad question.

Now the second part is easy. Not being a smartass but if you drive faster than they do, then you will lose them, otherwise you won't.

I have lots of tips. Step on the right pedal to go faster (shhh, that one is a big secret so don't tell anyone).

I can coach flying too. Pull the stick back and the houses get smaller. Push it forward and the houses get bigger.

We are talking strategies and technique here.

Do you mean to say the only way that you know how to stay in front is to drive faster?"

What did Fangio do at the German grand prix when his sterring went out?

You can't think of any other way to finish first?

Lightbulb Fast is not always first.

Flat out the whole time. I would think that was hard on machinery. How come winners do not have every lap a new lap record?

Why do they run off a few fast laps, then hold off?

What kind of strategy is that, just run flat out, or go faster?

Not at all. You asked how to lose them, not how to stay in front. I know lots of ways to stay in front.
