It's no different from all the comparisions of players that come into the NBA and say they are the next Michael Jordan. Do something first and then make the comparision to a legend.

Let's also not forget that Hamilton threw Trulli under the bus a couple years ago in Australia, lied to the FIA and was only caught because of the radio transmissions. Although not on the level of Alonsogate(s), it does show something about his character. And don't call someone a "poor man's Mansel", that is a slap in the face to Vettel. Once again he makes a comparision of someone who just started in F1 to a guy who has a long storied career in the sport. Have a little respect for your competitors.

I'm an idiot says the guy who claims Alonso is on his downside and that Shumacher would dominate the field upon his return.........

Hamilton is a great driver, better than Alonso in my opinion, but tooting your own horn is not something I respect, that's for others to do. Maybe Hamilton is trying to psych-out Vettel with his put down. Nothing else is working at the moment as long as RBR has the fastest car and Vettel is driving the way he has been.

Pete's statement about the new NBA players reminds me of Obama and the Nobel prize.

If you look at the start in Aussie, Hammy almost got by Vettel because of KERS. The straight was too short to get the advantage. KERS is a big advantage off the line and if RBR will not be using their KERS, I expect them to get passed.
As far as DRS, it does not get activated for the 1st few laps.

Sad the DRS cannot be used on the start as this track would make the use of this interesting!!

So many good drivers at the front, more than any era in recent history. Just give me a good race and don't let Vettel walk away with an unassailable lead early in the season.

Just add water (rain). Sadly, its the only time things get really interesting in F1 these days (just my HO).

After practice #2, you can throw a blanket over the Red Bulls & McLarens. The next best is over a second behind.

Ferrari (and Alonso) seem way off the pace.

Looks like it is Red Bulls race to lose (I suspect Vettel is holding back).

Not a bad show from MS.

Some real surprises regarding who is NOT at the top and who is near the top.
Vettle will qualify near or at the top.
MS is not likely to grid higher than 8th.
Two teams are 1 sec faster than the rest of the field. I suspect Ferrari & Mercedes will bridge that gap quickly in the coming weeks. Maybe Williams and Toro Rosso will shave about 1/2 sec this year.
FA almost 2 sec off the pace? What's up with him.
Felipe is 1/2 sec faster. I guess he can't hear the radio. (that's for you, Raj. )

Congrats Randy. You might as well not tune in for the race since you have already decided the outcome.
Friday's sessions mean very little. I expect Alonso to be no lower than 5th in qualifying. Ferrari seems to be sandbagging this one, just like RBR.

I doubt they're sandbagging at all (or if they are by that much), in which case lower than 5th is a good possibility.

Pardon my ignorance, but what reason does Ferrari have to sandbag at this point?

Ferrari does not ever worry themselves with fastest overall in practice. They run tests on new parts and race distance runs on tires and fuel. They don't worry about out right pace until Saturday. It's just how they work.

Why waste time trying to make headlines on Friday if you can't deliver on Saturday? They are Ferrari, they have enough headlines anyway!

(has nothing to do with Fernando, it is a Ferrari mentality, they have always done it this way)

Yeah, I understand not being fastest in practice for all of the reasons you mentioned. I was wondering what reason Ferrari would have to deliberately conceal the fact that they have a better pace than they appear to.

Very true that teams use practice for testing due to the test restrictions. However, they still seem off. We'll see tomorrow, for sure.
