Default DD/Tow vehicle suggestions??...

Tired of the giant box (Hummer). Looking for something, smaller, little better mpg, occasional mud and can handle 6000 pounds towing or more. SUV. So far, looking at Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Land Rover LR4 and Ranger Rover Sport. Suggestions and experience please.

The X5 (sport) did a nice job of towing an open trailer, there are a few local guys that use the Cayenne for open and small alumnium enclosed trailers and like them. 6K is a lot for any of these, if you want more then you're into a 3/4 ton frame or better...

Steve,
Is your Q7 gas or diesel. Towing an enclosed Haulmark I would guess diesel.

Probably won't approach the 6k mark in reality. But, I don't want to max out the capacity either.

If you want 6000 lb or more, going to be tough to go smaller. Wife's QX56 is big but drives like a car. Tows well up to 9000 lb, 15-17 mpg with my boat or car in town.

My personal fav on your list is X5... does everything well.

Mercedes GL diesel (bigger than the others but still a nice DD).

I would test drive the new Durango if I was in the market. It's a totally different vehicle (and actually built on a Mercedes platform). 7,200 lb towing capacity with the Hemi.

It depends. When you choose an early apex, for safety, you clearly want a Gurney flap. And extra underwear.
