Old Helmet Uses
I've got an SA2000 Bell helmet that is in need of a new life for something. I'm thinking of making it into a plant pot or maybe try to mount a light inside it somehow. With the bare shell and shield it might work.

I keep my old helmets in a shelf in a garage.
There's not too many of them (I think 5 or 6) but even at that, and all them with different custom painting, to me it's a nice "trophy"/"photo album" of memories.
Plus since they are dirt bike helmets, there at least 3 that are cracked etc. so some times it's nice to look at them and remember when & where it happened (although one of them I have no recollection...).
One aspect of riding dirt bikes is, you hardly ever replace a helmet because it's too old...
Soon my auto helmet gets old and I'm not going to throw it away, it will be added on the shelf.
Forget plant box and start your collection.

Maybe Clubs could collect them and send them to countries that have limited resources for this type of gear.
For instance, in the Dominican Republic it is rare to see someone wearing a helmet, I'd say a handful in 100 riders. They also have many, many scooter and small motorcycle riders.
Where lots of 2000 helmets are now being retired by us, I would think they would be a lot better than nothing for riders I have seen.
Yes, I know most are SA and not M rated. I do not see that as an issue here. Falling off a scooter at 25mph is not like laying down a Moto GP bike.
A used SA2000 helmet would be great for them to use.

I think I'm going to use it to make a plant pot - I've already gutted all the padding and foam out of it and all seals. I did inquire with my local PCA about donating it but they do not accept out of date helmets even as loaners. Plus it is 8 years old and used frequently over that time including many July events in 100+ degree heat.
