Default VIR race track.......

is it comparable to any of the further north tracks in North east USA and Canada?

how much time is necessary to get up to speed on it for a club race? (if you never been there)

How hot does it get in Virginia in June?

Thanks for any info.

It will make you want to move to VA. Watch some video and it will get you 90% there and you will have a blast. Temps, who knows what the winds blow, 80 - 95, try looking at one of the weather services for historical averages.

WGI was my favourite track till I went to VIR. 470 miles for me and worth every one of them, It's a great track and facility. I'm doing 6 events there this year.

Your times at WGI and VIR should be very similar once you know the track.
I was lucky enough to be coached by some friends who help get me up to a resonable speed after only 2 events.

I've been there in July and it was hot, you definitely would be wise to get a track side suite and enjoy the AC after being on track.

Similar in some ways to the Glen. Lots of undulation. Turn 1 SUCKS cause they wont pave the infield so everyone drops all the pea gravel there. The esses are little too narrow for my liking, and there is a HUGE backstraight.. All in all very good track, but would put Glen on my list before VIR.

Incredibly beautiful facility. Track is very nice. June it will be miserably hot. Cool Suit is a must.

The landscape driving up to the facility is jaw dropping gorgeous.

Paolo:
Put the VIR race on the calendar. Yes it was hot the last two years. 08 actually wasn't as bad. If you like the Glen, you will like VIR. Strong field of D and E cars.

WGI is my home track (Love it) and after visiting VIR... I would move to Va just to make VIR my home track!

WGI meets Tremblant. It goes over the existing land and its a rollercoaster. Great track, it's up there with WGI and Road Atl IMO.

I've never had a tougher time learning a track than VIR. Getting up to 1 second off pace is easy, finding the last little bit took me longer than normal. A welcome challenge.

VA is beautiful in June. Warm.

VIR is fantastic. It's every bit a pro level facility.

It is much narrower than the glen.

The paddock is not paved. It's some sort of sandy gravel something that gets into everything as if you drove onto a beach.

I do like the Glen better but VIR is well worth the trip.

The roller coaster hogpen section takes some getting used to and beware T10. Do not try to save T10, just drive off.

Plenty of places to run off which is very nice compared to the Glen.

You should be turning 1:58's in an F car.

It's a 17 hour drive from Montreal. I would go there anytime I could. Mt-Tremblant is my home track, but this track, it's just WOW. Being flat out from 5a to till the end of turn 9 (944 cup) is just amazing.

Go.

As former Trackchair for NER I know all the tracks that you are referring to, VIR is in my opinion a lot more challenging and fun.
As J Clark said, it will take skill to find the last second or two but once you do it's a blast.
LCMT would come in 2nd.

And one of the reasons we did moved to North Carolina was VIR!!

Go, you'll like it. Fun track and I agree with much of what was said above; I have used it as a beginning and/or end of season event, but it is a looong haul for us. It will be longer this year with high petro prices.
I do not like the back straight; really too long for us short geared-types.
Of note - I was looking into Lockton's on-track physical damage insurance for DE; they actually surcharge some tracks because of loss experience (including WGI; what an insult). VIR is the only track that earns a credit (discount). That tells you something about VIR's runoff room (and WGI's ARMCO).

Think Mont Tremblant + Road Atlanta + Watkins Glen + lots of tobacco fields & rednecks!

Somewhat narrow as has been said. You'll like the giant cavallino rampante at the entrance. In June it's the humidity you have to worry about. Folks running the place are very nice & professional.

As has been said, the 80% to 90% solution is not that difficult...but the rest is.

Agreed, its my favorite track I've been to. Hopping the 2nd corner in the upper esses is a blast.
