Default Daytona 500 racing in pairs - wtf?

What is going on there - is it a new strategy now that every driver got to find a mate to push him through the race or be screwed?

how an individual contender can compete with those guys who got up front in pairs right away as individual car goes 5-7 mph slower then them pairs? it does not seem remotely fair to me, at least it does not look like an individual racing anymore.

Called drafting.

It's how the new car works as opposed to 43 cars in a tight bunch.

i do not get the joke. so why they ain`t building 4 car locomotives then? could do some coupling joints then and merrily go even faster...

was it also happening last year? I extremely rarely watch it so really do not remember.

must admit, I enjoyed NASCAR last year especially the restrictor plate races however this 2 car drafting does not float my boat!

Ditto, have been a fan since the late '70's as a kid. Now, not so much.

This 2x2 racing is boring.

Lots of passing that yields nothing...not until the last 2 laps.

NASCAR ... All show, no go.

The sport formerly known as NASCAR died with Dale Sr. 10 years ago.

It is racing designed for the lowest common denominator.

Edit...

I retract everything I posted earlier... That was one hell of an impressive finish and truly memorable. Congrats to 20 year old first timer, Trevor Bane.

This race broke all previous records for lead changes, cautions, and the youngest to win... If nothing else, it was action packed.

Mike
