I also think the McBeath book is only good for an outright beginner. The Segers book does have a lot of math (which doesn't bother me) but really lacks the critical bits that I would want - how to turn it into a MoTeC math channel and more on how to interpret it to go faster.

If your book finds a nice medium with emphasis on interpretation, I'd be happy to pay more than $45-60. Hell, I've been tempted to pay a couple thousand to fly to attend one of Claude's courses but am terrified it would be too engineer oriented and not toward how the driver can learn to drive better from the data and end up being a waste of time and money.

That's the most common concern I hear, in my business. That the information presented will not be or be less than relevant to driver improvement. Even the recent Technology Racing Services seminar in Long Island that proposed making data acquisition technology more "approachable" to the racing driver was a challenge to make that so, and they had HUGE mental horsepower in the room.

Try talking to Bob Knox, Tom Remedios or Dave Redszus for a while, it's fantastic information but it'll make your HEAD hurt! Claude is very entertaining, though...

The conference ended up with Bruce MacInnes and I presenting and focusing solely on what the data says about the driver's performance and how to leverage that information solely for the improvement of the driver. For many, that was the reason why they were there... Can't help but think CB's publication will be on-target, in that regard.

I really enjoyed spending two days in an SAE seminar before PRI with Jorge Segers. He really brought his book to life in an entertaining and understandable way, and I am NOT a math-channel kind of guy. He showed a simple way to display in i2 Pro an objective measure of shock performance that allowed for proper, data-driven and performance proven adjustment to shock damping. It was really cool and a heck of a lot simpler than I had thought going in. No more "black art!"

While McBeath's book is in it's second edition and Templeman's much more Club Racer friendly book has a few nuggets but nothing very tasty or compelling, my personal favorite remains Buddy Fey's "Data Power!" Written in the data acq Stone Age (1993), Fey outlines simple performance targets based on measured information that can benefit any Club Racer or DE driver. Refreshing, simple, still relevant and direct. And also $250 and up, if you can find it.

With the pace of technology moving so quickly and the quality, quantity and accuracy of information so much improved over just a few years ago, Chris' book is right on time. Can't wait!

The Race-Keeper video/data and the Traqmate data systems are both excellent and each offer advantages along with being constrained by limitations inherent in systems at this price point.
