Default Lowering 964 Engine

Has anyone lowered their 964 engines a bit (1/8 – 1/2 inch) with shims at the engine and transmission mounts? Seems the engine could be lowered a small amount without any alignment issues and maybe gain some handling advantage with the weight a little lower.

At least on the 993, the axle centerline is already below the wheel centerline. Lowering the transmission further would just put additional strain (and drag losses) on the CV joints. No??

Just checked my 993 which is sitting on its tires (964 is on the lift sans engine/trans) and as far as I can tell, lying on my back, the trans CV is above the axle wheel hub CV, i.e. the trans output centerline is above the wheel centerline. So, lowering the suspension or lowering the engine/trans assembly will bring the CVs closer to parallel. Does anyone know what angle is required between the trans and wheel hubs for the CVs to function properly. I am pretty sure there needs to be “some” angle, they can’t run level. Didn’t Porsche racing have an issue a few years back with this in the RS Spyders or RSRs?

Yes, you can lower the engine about 1" using spacers. Many of the ALMS teams did when running the 993s. However, it will make worse, the drive axle alignment.
