June F1 in Austin is like putting the World Cup in Qatar in... any month. They could air condition the track like Qatar is doing for their stadia!

Yeah, August would've been better choice - not as cold

LOL! No, the organizers are lobbying for an October/early November date, just before or after Brazil. The weather here then is usually spectacular.

Yeah, but that would make too much sense. Decent weather, same side of the planet, reduced travel costs etc, etc, etc.

If I had to guess 1 1/2 out, the traffic situation is going to be pretty bad because they will have to put all their resources into getting the track done in a very short amount of time. I wonder how the seating situation is going to be.

They will find out it's too hot in June and Austin will lobby for a late Oct. or Nov. date, but it'll be denied. They will then go to late May before the Canadian GP.

How is late May in Austin? 5-10 degrees cooler?

I remember getting off the plane in Indy when they moved the F1 race to late June there. OMG it was humid!!!

They run Indy Cars in early June in Fort Worth,
usually the week following INDY.

Running in May would risk the worst of the rains,
although June can be pretty wet as well.

Late October would be beautiful. But in the states,
and Austin in particular -- football runs king in the fall.

Here's some data to mull over.

They did the same dumbass thing in Dallas in 1984. I was there. It was horrible.

Ha, video of core samples. Looks like a Ranger excavation truck in the background, the owner of which is a Rennlister and current NA Ferrari Challenge champ. Congrats on the contract!

Glad to see from the "comments" section on this article that the residents of the Peoples Republic of Austin are alive and still active. The carbon footprint implications are enormous! Should anyone attempt to explain a KERS system to them? Problem is it's hard to defend anything in which Bernie E is involved.
