Neither, actually. I have both and I'd say any of my sunglasses would be equivalent to a Bell 'medium smoke' shield.

I use dark all the time through the summer and it's really rather dark. If you were making that decision today, I'd recommend going with the light smoke version--and do yourself a favour and get the fog free type.

As for my opinion on the original theme of this post, for me it's shield only.

I had the same question. Light tint or Dark tint for my new Arai Gp6. I wore Oakley sunglasses under clear before. Hmmmmmm

When I first got this car it seemed that all kinds of things were flying in the window, so I fab'd a simple wind deflector and that was an easy fix.

dark tint would be equivalent, but you'd probably want to go to a full blown iridescent (mirror like) visor to really get proper tint.

I dono, I have not wrecked a car on track yet but have taken 2 good hard and a few little debris hits so far. Good sized tire marble with an imbedded rock came in and got me right on the bridge of the nose at VIR this year. This hit prompted me to replace the flip down shield. If it is a no cost addition why not? If the flip down does not devrease vision or fog up it adds a level of safety at not cost elsewhere as some other devices could.

How many use a fine mesh window net? Mine butts up against the vent window so there is just about no way something can get in. I will use the clear shield on my new Pyrotech though I'm hoping it doesn't make my head any hotter than it already is..

One more reason to wear a shield closed when on track.
