I guessed you would have figured out a way to import a Renault. Don't they still offer a Fernando Alonso edition?

Christian, thanks & same to you. Thanks for all the other suggestions!

Yes....she wants a Quattroporte... She also really l;iked the E-class up to the very recent restyle. Does not like the current styling. Not much else appeals to her. She currently drives a 2002 BMW 525i Sport. 4 door.

VW: bloated & bland? Not my GTI. Small outside, large inside. And, it really moves. (Small trunk) Plus gets 27 MPG.

If I were looking for another mid-sized luxury car it would be a Cadillac. Best bang for the buck. We have a Audi A6 Quatro, great car. Last year we rented a Cadillac and drove all through Vermont. Better car. V8; better performance and better MPG than our A6 V6. Quieter also.

BMW: Not worth the extra $5K +. YOMV

Japanese and luxury is an oxymoron. I'd never have one.

Ford: I'd take a look at some of their offerings. Their technology in the Nav package is very impressive.

Fiat: Abarth. Now that wil get around. Coming to a dealer near you.

W211's were made up until '08 or '09 I believe. You can still find relatively new, low mileage examples in great condition and like all MB products they're not worth squat 2 years after new so you get a bargain at the same time.

Make sure she drives one first. They're the worst car from a drivers perspetvie I've ever been in. I've driven trucks that I enjoy the driving experinece in better. That said we have an E55 W211 with some Renntech goodies on it. My wife loves it and has no complaints. I love it only in a striaght line with the skinny pedal fully depressed

CTS-V wagon with manual? It's got a bit more room.

I think that would be a very cool, if rare, option.

Audi S4 is getting rave reviews, and with the right wheels, and the alacantra trimmed, Recaros, is a very nice car.

Just got back from Germany where I had a Mercedes E-Class wagon for a rental. That was a nice car that I would put my wife in. Lots of interior room with some nice features for a rental. It had lots of room in the backseat area. The transmission was smooth and had a sport mode that helped make it a somewhat sporty ride. For the wife it would be a great car. For me it would be a little bit lacking in the sport area. Looks weren't bad with the sport package. Only part I don't know if you can get in one here is the diesel engine. That was pretty awesome for diesel too. I would equate it similar to a 5 series as those are my next options for getting my wife a new car from her 3-series wagon.

One last point if you go with the italian Q please make sure you select the optional Honda. High fashion and sexy looks rarely coincide with reliability. That being said I am a recovering brishish SUV owner and now found my true love an F350

Thanks. She is not averse to a wagon.

Hope you had fun over there!!

Christian, I think the Q may not be the best option, if for no other reason than the new dealer here in Austin does not give me great vibes regarding service competency.

Yes. They are separate. The Maser dealer is Roger Beasley Saab-Maser-and something else which I forget. The Ferrari dealer is a small offshoot of Risi's Houston store IIRC.
