In that picture it's FWD. In it's current form it's awd but with a much less flamboyant fwing

This is the AWD version.

That car being fwd ran a buttonwillow #13 record time of 1:46.736

Here is a road race car that was pretty successful and managed by one of the very best engineers around:

no reason why a front wing isnt a good thing. (except for size and drag)
sure looks odd though!

was that spec racer with bolt on wing from a race at laguna???

This is what I've been saying. These things are not just Riced out rubbish. They are stupidly fast with a lot of research and build $$ going into them. What would they be doing on slicks!!!?

There many reasons why front wings would not be a good thing.

Obviously implemented properly, front wings do work. Formula 1 cars are great examples of this. But, front wings in Formula 1 start to lose their effectiveness as they are raise away from the ground.

In the example shown in this thread, I have to believe that the fronts wings, even if they do help front down force, are causing a real problem by disrupting the airflow over the cars and quite possibly making the rear wing a lot less effective in the process.

Anybody do any work in a wind tunnel with those front wings?

Scott, you're clearly someone who is versed in these matters.

In your estimation, to answer your own question...would those front wings be put on these cars that have a lot of time and money poured into them...if they were counter-productive?

Clearly versed in these matters? No, but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.....

I have no idea if they are counter productive. You would think some on track testing would answer that question for the race team. Maybe they had plenty of rear downforce and needed more up front however they could get it. Maybe the drag caused by the turbulence didn't matter.

All I can say for sure is those wings are not aesthetically pleasing to my eye!!

An aspect of using wings that the front wing messes up it this...

With enough aero, you can tune the car for mechanical oversteer to get it rotated in the slow corners. Then tune the aero towards understeer for a more comfortable car in the fast corners. I think that would be lost with a front wing.
