Heavy metals are bad news as they enter the food chain at the bottom and build up as you move up the chain. We humans eat at the concentrated end of the food chain. Lead is not just for paint chip lickers.
My guys sort out and we sell a 30 gallon drum of lead every 3 month or so. We have to use a forklift to move the little 30 gal drum when it is full. This used to end up in the dump. This is the kind of thing that busness would not do unless compelled. Look at China right now or the US in the 40s and 50s. Little sight on the future and some huge very expensive messes to try and clean up. Why **** your own bed when you don't have to?

We should also bitch about how it's illegal to dump used motor oil down the drain. It's very inconvenient that I have to bring it to a place that will accept it.
And if it's inconvenient for me personally then the government must be absolutely evil to have caused it. Their sole motivation is to make my life miserable.

People bitched frigging murder about lead free gas too. Tetra ethel lead in gas was driving the lead levels up in almost everything. A friend worked in a testing lab in the days of leaded gas and he had a hard time getting his testing equpment free enough of lead to make tests on lead levels. The backround levels of lead dropped off a cliff after a few years.
